Thanks to you I now know that I have 31 spline axles but are they 3/4 or 7/8 inch shaft. The reason I'm asking, the wife gave me the green light on a locker after getting her our son and I stuck. My son and I had fun, but she didn't enjoy it like we did.

theres plenty of posts about lockers. For alot its personal prefrence. Me im gonna be buying a 96 bronco here soon and Ill most likely save up for front and rear arb lockers or maybe rear detroit and front arb. Tell us what you wheel in and maybe we can help a little more.

I think I have decided on which locker. I have used lock rights before and had good luck with them. I just noticed when I went to look at them for the 8.8 that they have one for 3/4 and one for 7/8 inch shaft. I was wondering which one I wanted. Is it 3/4 for 28 spline and 7/8 for the 31 spline? Thanks for the input.

If you had either you'd probably break them driving down the street.

31 spline shafts, regardless of 8.8 or 9", are 1.31", at least on paper. In real life they're no doubt smaller in places. But I've never heard of anyone refer to them as 3/4" or 7/8"

What have you used the "lunchbox" lockers in? I know folks that have used them with great success in smaller lighter vehicles. One who has been lucky in the bronco (he has one up front) But the consensus is that they break in our heavy beasts. Buy a Detroit Locker. You'll be glad you did. It will cost alot more though because you will have to have your gearsets adjusted again since the detroit is a whole new differential setup. If you plan on regearing then wait untill you can afford to do it all at once. I had my detroit put in.... then had new gears put in 4 months later.
It's all spendy. But ohhh so worth it. lol NORM

I asked the wrong question, the shaft is the pin for the locker not the axles sorry for the confusion.
I have used lock rights in a sammy and currently on my scout. The sammy was a about a little as they came but they took alot of abuse. My scout has not seen much hardcore wheeling mainly mud and some hill climbs, no rocks in my part of the state. I have a detroit in the back of full size dodge and I love it but can not afford another one. I will be using the Bronco mainly for family outings and camping but I have a hard time staying out of the mud and few fun areas we have around here. If you guys are grenading lock rights, I'm glad to hear about it now. What were the rigs like that took them out. Mine is 86, 302, 31x10.5 in winter, 33x11.5 summer. If it won't survive let me know

Well maybe I'll just save my pennies for a few more months and pony up for the detroit. You guys have me worried about my scout now, I was going to take it the the Dakota Territory Challenge this year but maybe a locker upgrade is in order. Does anyone want to talk to my wife and explain why I now need to detroits, I'm telling her you guys are to blame.
