I just got a 78 GMC Sierra truck from a guy for my Jeep swap. I can't figure out what the rear end is. The differential case has 10 bolt holes, but it's not round like a 10 bolt. I thought it was a dana 44 until I found out Chevy never put a 44 in the rear. I think the truck has a 44 up front though. The truck has a 350 engine with sm465 tranny and np208 tcase if that helps any. Any help is appreciated.

Oh, and if anybody is interested in the np208, let me know because I won't be using it.

Thanks, Andy

If it is 8 lug it is probly a dana60

if it is 6 lug then im sure it is a 12 bolt with 2 bolts broke off maybe? lol??

they never had D44 fronts with 10bolt rears I don't think, and I don't belive they had 10bolts (rear) in 78 either....

10 bolts have the telltale corners on the bottom. 12 bolts are pretty obvious. Wimpy ten bolts got little ears or nothing.

It's seen some drivetrain swap since it shouldn't have a NP208 unless it's 81 or newer and it should have a 12 bolt in the back.
