Re: MTR\'s in the snow

I like em!

They clean out pretty quick, so i have no problems driving down the road. Even with the detroit in the rear, i didnt have any problems controlling it. And i was on the road alot today, too. These are definitely waayyyyy better than my old Mickey T's. I didnt even bother to shift into 4wd today- i didnt need it

Re: MTR\'s in the snow

speakin of 4wd.....my front dana is leakin...and when i shifted into 4hi while movin my truck...it would make a metal to metal sound..which if you ask me isnt healthy....so i kept it in 2wd the whole way home...KEV..i hate you right now for havin a detroit...i mean it was easy comin home but i could have used alil assistance...i think its just about time to go SOLID and BEEFY...what will come first though...the swap overs,or the grenading of the TTB dana?

Place your bets here.....

Re: MTR\'s in the snow

Trust me on this one though...having a Detroit in the rear also, is not great in snow/ice ON ROAD. I am betting the MT/R's are doing the job for RepT. The Detroit locker really shines when off road, in very slippery, one wheel type traction situations. So far, in rainy, slick on road conditions, the detroit is not a big deal, but it certainly isn't helping much with traction when turning. Donuts become a piece of cake. An open rear, or LSD rear, IMO, is probably more friendly in the type of weather you are getting.

Now, also having an ARB up front is just plain fabulous, on road or off.

Re: MTR\'s in the snow

my detroit rear also isnt to street friendly. my truck with the wide swampers has a hard tiem even going straight in any amount of snow or ice. That detroit leaves my trucl practically uncontrolable on ice.

Re: MTR\'s in the snow

boy BigNorm, I was sure thinking that would have been nice the other day when we had ice on the roads.

BTW, I got to take a muddy (yet fairly frozen) dirt road the other day. Man I've got to tell ya, with those Michelin LTX AT's I would have been in 4wd the whole way, but with the new mudders, I forgot that I had a 4x4 because I didn't have a lick of trouble. On the type of road I went down, I would have had to stay in the ruts to keep from going in the ditch, now I was making my own ruts because I didn't like the ones I was in
!! I now think those buckshots were worth it, just gotta find out about tread wear.

4w...well....2wd to the rescue!

Imagine my surprise when i go to pull into the lot at work today, only to realize they never plower it! Now, of course, i work right on a highway, so we had this wall of slushy snow about 2½ feet deep. Not a problem for me, but you shoulda seen some of my coworkers! This one guy pulls up in his little S10 pickup, and he's like, 'im never gonna get in there!'
Well, i convinced him to back up and take a running start at it. Sure enough, the momentum got him in, but after that, not much further!

AHHHH, i dont think i laughed that much in a while, watching him fishtail around the parking lot, getting stuck everywhere. He eventually got so stuck that i had to hook a strap up to him and pull him into a spot!

Imagine my boss' surprise when he needed 4wd to get into the parking lot! lol! Needless to say, work started a little late today

Visiting............new jersey??????

yeah, id guess about that much!

Both me and 86Convert4wd are in central jersey. Theres nothing here except for houses. Lots of em. The northwest corner has the mts, and the southern end has the flatlands and pine barrens. the middle has......well, nothing really. But check your brakes before you go. you'll need em!
(Yes, its dangerous to drive in this state, regardless of the weather/season)
