We did a SOA on msy firends Jeep, and now his rear Driveshaft is too short- Hes looking for options as far as bigger driveshafts, IE half ton or better that use the same Ujoints, so he can keep from having to change yokes. I know that a cut down AMC Eagle driveshaft might work but were looking for more options, Like other Jeeps, or anything else at all.

Thanks

Humm..
In reply to:

Hes poor and needs a Driveshaft thats only an inch or so longer than the stocker.

[/ QUOTE ] IMHO poor ain't got anything to do with this. Unless you did one heck of a job on the SOA he's going to have to go to a modified driveline to avoid all sorts of nasty stuff like:
a. U-joint Destruction
b. Driveshaft Destruction
c. Brake line destruction.
d. Simple vibration.
e. Yoke destruciton
f. And a few other things I can't remember right now.
Being poor doesn't mean doing a poor job, it means that you have to do the job even better than if you did have money. Only the rich can afford poor quality, the poor can't. The poor have one chance to "do it right the first time" or they are doomed to continue to pay, and pay, and pay.

I can Add F. The Simple and utter displeasure if fixing it in six or eight inches of mud afer A-E (pick one Its happened) and its raing, your dirty and cold and you jsut dropped about a dozen needle bearings into the goo.

hes got extended brake lines, I think we used Blazer Lines, Dropped pitman arm, are working on an Anti wrap bar. With the exception of t the Brake line destruction It happened. All of it. Drive shaft distruction has been the most recent.
Poor might be the wrong word for him, maybe "limited budget" is more accurate.
It always seems to be raining when were working on it. Anyway, aw bandaid is what hes looking for right now, and he doesnt feel that he needs a high angle driveline- He just sees the dollar signs racking up- and going somplace that doesnt make sense to him like Engine Goodies or rubber. Ive been helping him along for a year now, and sometimes i feel like braining him with an axleshaft.
Thanks for the suggestion of High Angle Driveline. I'll be sure to Imbed that into his mind- without an axleshaft!

Thanks

I am wondering why after doing an SOA would he even try to drive with the stock driveline? He should just do the SYE himself as it's not that difficult, then get the proper driveshaft. If he does it himself, he'll save lots of money and he won't have any worries.

Doesnt help much when Given Inadequate information does it.
Sorry. This is an 85 ish CJ7. (it varies from 78-00) Dana 300 front AMC 20 Rear, 360, T176 and Sprung over with stock drivelines. he Needs many things but just sees money flying out of his pocket. He has avoided doing the things he needs (like this driveshaft) until it bites him in the A ss. He Needs a Truck transmission, one piece axleshafts in the 20, and a 44 up front. (out back wouldnt be bad either) I dont think its really sunk in that agonizing over busted stuff is more painful than dishing out the cash for good stuff that wont break or has warrenties. You can be sure i will be reinforceing His need for a Good set of drivelines such as the ones High Angle makes. Not to mention the other grocery list of stuff he needs before the Jeep stops trying to physically dismantle itself from the inside out.

Thanks for the Input.

Jesse, have him head to Brake Service (Rockland, Bangor, Portland, etc) for the driveshaft work, it's cheap, I had my Grand Waggie driveshaft (what you are looking for, thicker tubes and heavier yokes) cut down, welded and balanced, with new joints for $100. No need to go CV shaft on the CJ-7, there are a lot of guys running them with the normal driveshaft and no problems. It's just SOA, not lifted SOA, so he's OK.

I've taken a few shafts to Brake Service in Bangor before. They do really good work, but I'm not sure I'd go back. The last few times they told me that they couldn't use any of the ends that I brought in (even though a few of them had just been replaced by them a few months earlier) and they would have to sell me new ones, or else they couldn't balance it. Again, they do good work, just be careful they don't try to sell you things you don't need.

He talked to them last week, and is having them make him an extended rear shaft- i cant remeber the spec on it, but it was somehwat longer than the stock one, and .250 wall tube.
I know the guys at Brake Service in bangor. it looks like things are going to come around for that poor old jeep.
