Help - Loud Exhaust

I need some more help with my YJ. I've recently started experiencing a problem involving some loud exhaust. Most of the time, it only happens upon the initial opening of the throttle. That's to say, i'll let the jeep sit in neutral and then tap the accelerator and i'll get a loud exhaust. It's not a backfire, just a steady, loud exhaust. I've inspected every single exhaust component and find no holes at all. The only hole i found was in one of the pulse air tubes, and I took care of that with some exhaust tape (for now.) I should note that this hole was REALLY TINY, just thought i'd mention this. What are the possible causes for my loud exaughst? As I said, it only happens, for the most part, upon the initial opening of the throttle.

Thanks,
Pablo

Have somebody stand behind the Jeep while you produce the noise. He should be able to tell you if the noise is coming out of the tailpipe. If it is, the problem is likely to just be a rusted out muffler. It's not unusual for the baffles in the muffler to rust and break loose. When that happens you can get some odd results, but the outside of the muffler can still look fine.

If that doesn't narrow it down, have the buddy listen under the hood. It could be a leak at the exhaust manifold.

On a super dark night with the engine running, you can look under the Jeep and see light flames from exhaust leaks coming before the muffler.

Good chance for your muffler being rusted out or just having a nice hole in one of your down pipes somewhere.

Best regards

John
