Dealer Fraud

Folks, For those who have been following the thread "Do all dealers do this" here is what I found out today. I remembered on the Highmark that I was going to purchase that it had a dealer sticker that said something about Grand Junction, Colorado. I called the dealer over there and ask him about the sled. I ask him why the odometer showed 1.3 miles but the sled had 8 hours on it. He admitted that it came from them and they had taken it out twice. He told me that he had told TRAILER SOURCE MOTOR SPORTS, the Denver dealer, that the sled was a demo. I again ask why they would disconnect the speedo. He replied it was for "the floor plan", whatever that means. I just left it at that. I don't care what his reason was, to disconnect the odometer and then ride the sled and then reconnect the odometer is fraud. TRAILER SOURCE MOTOR SPORTS told me only that it had been a "floor model" and nothing about it being a demo. As to whether or not they were told and knew will probably remain a mystery. I am guessing that they did or at least suspected given their initial response whenever I first noticed the damage and pointed it out to them. They tried to play it off as something that probably happened during setup. They knew better! I will be calling the State Attorney General's office today and see what they think. The name of the dealer that disconnected the odometer is -> SPORT CENTER OF GRAND JUNCTION, INC in Grand Junction Colorado. Let it be know to all that they do this kind of stuff. The dealer that may have and probably knew something was up, and was not going to share that information is -> TRAILER SOURCE MOTOR SPORTS in Denver Colorado. Please pass this on. This is wrong! Isn't the web great!

I would also:

1). Report it to the Denver/Grand Junction Better Business Bureaus. In Denver, they (used to, at least) pursue it with a form that the business must respond to if they want to remain members of the BBB.

2).Report it to the manufacturer also and ask them how they intend to handle it. If they don't have a good answer and sound like they will follow through with what they say, I would consider (SERIOUSLY) going to another brand and telling them so. Money talks..

It is dissapointing to me to hear that a DEALER would do this. I have heard of individuals doing this sort of thing (such as lexan cowlings on the sled for two years then selling sled supposedly with only 500 miles on it)...
I hope that in your endevor to regain the trust that you had when you went thruogh the dealers door, you enlighten other dealers to the fact that we are not all stupid. Having a medium such as this will help many people to learn of this kind of trickery and hopefully put a stop to it. I feel that ski-doo will help you in any way they can, because of the bad publicity that could come from this if it really got out big that a SKI-DOO DEALER had tried to put the screws to someone with malice. I hope that you get the response hoped for, and that the factory, bbb,and whoever else gets into this will make it known THIS IS ILLEGAL, IMMORRAL, DISHONEST, AND JUST PLAIN MEAN MAN!!!!!!!!!
Find another dealer in another state and buy the sled from them, I hear the e-ticket is a pretty good sled.

What the dealer meant by (Floor plan) is actually called flooring, which is the inventory financing for the dealer. Almost all dealers cannot afford to buy their Snowmobile, motorcycle inventory with cash. So they floor their inventory with large financial companies such as ITT, etc. Most dealers disconnect the speedo's on the inventory that is used as a demo, because the finance companies that floor their product come by the dealership once a month to check the dealers inventory to make sure they are paying them when they sell some inventory, and they also check the odometer readings, because if the miles get over a set amount the vehicle is considered used by the flooring company and has to be payed off. The milage used by most flooring companies is around 60-80 miles. So now you can see why most dealers do this, as they usually can't afford to pay off all the demo's.

The dealer should have sold the sled as a demo, with a healthy discount, and explained the situation.
