In the city,on the road sleddin\'....what a blast! Anyone else??

5 yrs ago in late Nov. on my way home from Saskatchewan I had to start using 4wd at Loydminster
all the way to Edm.It was 'bout 2 in the morn when I got home and the plows couldn't keep up with
the continuing snowfall. There was 6 to 14"of snow everywhere and lots of 3' drifts and and a few 6-8'ers .........I couldn't
resist.......filled the fluids .......dressed up..and went urban sleddin'!(I loaded the sled onto my truck and dropped
it behind a near-by school so the cops couldn't follow my tracks home ,on account that I have a crack/whore
house and kiddie porn studiothere ).149 st., West Edm Mall ,107 ave, down town,106 ave bridge ,Capilano
Drive(Gretzky Way), zig-zaggedthrough Bonny Doon/Whyte ave area to the Whitemud Freeway back to the
school and home. While in the Bonny Doon area I spotted the tracks of two other sleds,as I slow down to find out
which direction they went ; the cops see me and turn on the red & blues. They are coming from the north,so I
head north slowlypast them,(Ford Explorer 4x4{with small all seasons on it;it didn't move too well ).
Just as they got turned around,I turned around and blew by them southbound down 109 st then 111st onto the
whitemud and uneventfully home.
Saw 8-10 areas w/snow equiptment and avoided them.
The other 12-15(civilian) vehicles seemed to be playn' too!
WHAT A BLAST!!!!!!!
I don't think i irritated,woke-up,scared,annoyed,p1ssed off{maybe 2 Edm. CITY cops...so what!},harmed,
or marred anyone or anything......What's the big deal....Lighten up!

yeah, thats a little better. problem is, when one person does that, it kinda of gives a bad reputation to all of us. i guess its a matter of personal choice, and i wouldn't be caught dead on any city streets that arn't legal. if your really hellbent on riding on streets, go to north bay or somewhere where it is legal to ride in town. oh yeah, DON"T GET CAUGHT!! /wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif

I think road riding is appropriate and fun under the right circumstances. The conditions you described seem like the right circumstances. When the roads are practically impassible by car (say 8 inches of snow) it's the cars that don't belong on the road. I can't say I would recommend riding through a city, but back country roads are a blast! Watch out for immobilized cars!

Awesome Toyl'r
Screw the cops, with that much snow on the ground i wouldnt give a f*ck ether. Seriously people, snowmobiling wont be banned from the trails cause of people breaking the law in the streets, Its not like they can retalliate, saying that the trails can actually be used for something ELSE besides snowmobiling and then bann the trails. Its not gonna happen. So when you get a lot of snow and have now place to ride to forth and have fun.

I agree I don't believe in breaking the laws for snowmobiling because it does give snowmobilers a bad name. But what the hell if you are not hurting anything or anyone the more power to ya. But just remember don't get caught!! And believe me a half way good sled will murder any truck in the snow!! And if your sled can't out run a explorer in the snow its time to upgrade.

Re: Reread original post.....and mellow out!

well, heres the problem, and it does eventually get to the trails. If you haven't noticed the links at the top of every screen, let this be your wake up call. these links are trying to help keep trails open for our use. most of this is in the states, and im pretty sure snowmobiling will be alive and well in the great white north as long as i live, but still, i would perfer to see sledders be able to ride everywhere. the fact is, most people are not snowmobilers. most people don't mind them, and are in a kind of "neutral"postition. when sledders do get loose in city streets, and do wake up people, this turns these people to the "negative" postition. they now are against any person on a sled, as the rest of us get branded as trouble makers. when enough people are offended, word gets out, and people cry out for stricter snowmobile regulations, and the outlawing of sleds alltogether. although nothing gets my blood pumping like the sound of a two-stroke engine, some people dislike it, and don't want to hear it and try to get rd of it all together. If this continues, it won't be too long until we all ride tiny, super fuel efficeitn, four-stroke, slow sleds, bumper to bumper on the states one trail. please take this into consideration next time you go street riding, and do be careful.

Re: Reread original post.....and mellow out!

The riders in Anchorage Ak can not even get a trail out of town on an unused (in the winter) bike path. A large part of the reason is
huge opposition by the anti-snowmobile crowd- all they remember and associate with is snowmobilers who ride through their
neighborhood at 3:00 am with little regard for the laws. It's the one bad apple syndrome. While it may be cool, safe and no-one got
hurt. It is also illegal, annoying and against the law, which doesn't help snowmobiling one bit.

If you can't buy what you want, BUILD IT!!

Frank and four 5o four.....ha!

About 24 yrs ago in Niagara Falls,Ont after a very large storm ,requests were made for sled owners to help
by delivering insulin etc...............it must have been these situations, with numerous snowmobiles in an urban
setting, that started all the aninosity.
So ,if any of you are ever called upon to drive your snowmobile in the city,PLEASE REFUSE,even if it is
to save lives;as the general public will not know this and think you a SCOFFLAW!

Re: Frank and four 5o four.....ha!

i couldn't care less if you came through my neighbourhood at midnight and woke me up, carrying insulin or not, in fact i would probably jump on my sled and go after you (i sleep in my snowmobile suit, just in case /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif )
but you are right, i would be on my sled in a second to help somebody.
also, after re-reading your post, snowmobiling during a storm is not so much the problem as snowmobiling when there is no storm, if that makes sense...

Re: Reread original post.....and mellow out!

Right onFour 50 Four, to bad everybody doesnt have the brains to see the big picture, just keeps the rest of us all workin harder
to make up for the few. Oh well, guess I've seen this all my life and will continue seeing it till I die.
