I am 22 looking to buy my first quad. I will be trail riding along with fooling around with it. Jumping, wheelies, etc. I am 5'10" and 165lbs. I am looking a buying a new quad and I think that I want a Yamaha Blaster or a Kawasaki Mojave. I have driven quads quite a bit for not owning one, my brother just got a 1993 Warrior and my ex-girlfriend and her family had a polaris 500 and a honda 250, so I know my way around the machines. If anyone can give me any information to help with my choice that it what I am looking for.

I don't see how anyone can go wrong with a Blaster. I'm 6' 195lbs and I've had at least one in my garage since 1994. My wife rides a bone stock 99 model and my son has a modified 94. I think the only quad with more aftermarket options might be the 250R.

They are rock solid dependable, and even in bone stock condition, are still fun to ride. At 5'10" you may be a little cramped as your riding style becomes more aggressive.

$3099 isn't a bad price either.

since you've ridden a quad before i'd go with the 400ex but if you think that's too much power go with the mojave. The blaster is fine but wiht the mojave you have 50cc more. Hope this helps

these two machines are really close (in my opinion) to being the same machine, they will have almost the same power STOCK, the Blaster is lighter (as pointed out) so it handles better on the trails, but the KAW. has better suspention for jumping, I own two Blasters and LOVE them both, but I was looking at the Mojave for one of my sons(hes more of a four stroke kind of kid)so the real question hear is , ARE YOU A 4 STROKE RIDER OR A 2 STROKE RIDER, the answer to that question will give your answer as to which quad to buy

I just found a 2001 300ex with full skid plates and new rear tires (can't remember which brand), that looks new. I can get it for 3,800. So I think that I am going to go with this quad. Any thoughts?

I have another question. Which do you think would be a better purchase. A used 300ex as described above or a new Mojave. I am still having trouble deciding. I have read about people having problems with the 300ex suspension bottoming out.

Find someone with a Blaster and see if it's too small for you. I'm 5'11" and mine's a bit small. But since I've probably only put 20 hours on it in the last three years it doesn't matter much to me.

I'd take a look at a 250R, 250X, and a 300EX. Mojaves are great machines but they have their problems. Like with any four stroke, they're expensive to fix. Mojaves also had that worn-out-third-gear problem.

Third gear starts to get tired after a few years or a few thousand miles on a machine that is ridden hard. It's cheap to fix, the only bothersome part is splitting the cases to replace it. I've only seen one that needed to get replaced myself, and from the way the guy banged through the gears I'm not surprised. The machine was used in the woods mainly so it spent a lot of time in 2-3-4.

dont worry bout the suspension bottoming out, i am 5 5' and like, 150 and it has never had problems even when i launchedd off the jump, but im not tryin to be braggin bout the the 300ex but it really is a great machine, my freind went away and on his trip he dragged one with his somewhat modded blaster going 68 mph and he killed it. and the blaster was a 89' so im serious, u will not have any probs with the suspension its known to be great and as a last resort tighten the suspension but i will never have to do that uless im like 20.
