Re: Toyota Powersteering IS easy photos .

I have the celica box and a pump off a 86 toyota 4by p-up and have'nt torn into it yet but it does'nt look too bad. I'm not much for fabricating so i'll watch for your pictures. What do you have planned for the pitman arm?

Thanks,
Don

Re: Toyota Powersteering IS easy photos .

You might want to carry a spare end, I tried the same thing and it broke pretty quickly. What a lot of guys do is press the ball joint out of the Toy pitman arm and then take a stock zuk one, cut off the end with the taper and round it off so you can weld it in where the ball joint went on the Toy arm.

This picture was taken after I did a trail repair. There were two threads left on one side of the break so I attched the jam nut, welded it to the end with the taper and then threaded the nut onto the other piece of thread. Got me home.

DAMN !!!!you are way to hard on your stuff LOL!! was that made out of a stock steering bar? or something else ?
Im also going to hydro assit so there isnt going to be to much force on that anyways thanks for the heads up .
Yeah i seen the photos of how they where doing it on the por board mine came from RRO to fit there z-link im running . from the looks of it to me its a stock end cut off turnhed down but i may be wrong . But now that you said that i will be making me a spare/wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gifif it breaks i will re think

And yes if you dont no it buy now i cant spell LOL!

Re: Toyota Powersteering IS easy photos .

im going to use it beacuse look how many z-links rro makes and the use those stock ends. (I think) looks like it to me. and the fact that i can fine tune my steering .They garruent theres not to brake eeven on the harhest trail at least thats what glens web page says ,

They might not have been thinkin of Chris in mined when they said that seein how from the looks of his website he spends most of his weekends on trails i wish we had around here.

And yes if you dont no it buy now i cant spell LOL!

Re: Toyota Powersteering IS easy photos .

I did it that way because my drag link used a standard rod end, M16 x 1.5 thread I think. No sense in making something bigger if your just going to turn it down on the lathe anyway to put the threads on it. The weak point will still be where the threads end. I also didn't have a means to make a taper. If you can make the taper why bother with this method, make a slug, weld it into the toy arm. The arm will bust before your slug does.

Re: Toyota Powersteering IS easy photos .

actaull thats what i thought but you dont have to have a template as long as you cut the piesce of 1/2 inch steal right at 4x6 its a tight fit but hold it on with a c-clamp take a drill use hole that go all the way trought the frame drill them out get Ps box put it on the 1 hole use 1 of the factory hole setit up . mark the other 2 holes pull it off get a 27/64 drill bit drill the 2 holes gewt a 1/2 13 tap tab them out take 2 1inch long bolts with lockwashers put it all back on . heres some better photos.

And yes if you dont no it buy now i cant spell LOL!

Re: Toyota Powersteering IS easy photos .

So did you have to drill the frame any? Which bolts hold what on? hehe is it me, or does that steering box say Toyoda, not Toyota? hehe So you are using a Chevy pump? Where will you put it? How does a Sidekick box bolt to a Sami frame? How strong are they? I hear the Sidekick pumps are not great, what about the box? Maybe a Sidekick box and a different pump? Just throwin idears around. :)

Re: Toyota Powersteering IS easy photos .

No No drilling the frame. YOu use the same 3 exsisting holes that go all the wat rought the frame on my lasr pic you see the the bolt that goes through the powersting pump and plate that is the exsisting hole that you use . the other two holes you tab the1/2 inch plate and bolt it ot it , the last 2 holes which you can only see 1 is in the top right corner that bolts the plat to frame and the other 1 is between the ps 2 taped holes you cant see in photo

i will have pictures up tommorw of the pump install and hoses, i choise it beacuse it is much bigger and ive herd of peoples pumps over heating on both the toyota and tracker pumps

To me this setup is a breeze . it can be done in 1 day. but seeing how im doing it during the work week i only work on it about a hour a day , How you like that beefy steerig link with the splines

And yes if you dont no it buy now i cant spell LOL!

Re: Toyota Powersteering IS easy photos .

Ok, so for the steering box you have there, the 2 holes or feet of the box that are on the same side of the shaft bolt to the PLATE. The hole inbetween those two bolts the plate to the frame. On the other side of the shaft, the top hole bolts the plate to the frame, then the bottom does double duty, goes all the way thru the box and frame sandwhiching them together??? do I got it now??? !! :) I think I got it! I think I got it!!!!! hehe Im a dork...anyways.

So what steering box is it? Looks new! What pump again? How will you set up the pump?

Re: Toyota Powersteering IS easy photos .

Nice job getting that pump in there. I don't like the remote resevoir setup I have. It spills fluid on off camber stuff. You may want to make a heat shield for that though, or toss a cooler in there. Mine ran really hot till I change to Hytran Ultra, it's a fluid used for tractors. I also tossed a transmission cooler I found on the side of a trail in for good measure :)

Re: Toyota Powersteering IS easy photos .

For you "do it yourselfer's", you will need to adapt the Zuk draglink to the Toyota pitman arm. I'm selling my "Z" link that is already adapted to the Toyota box for $50 plus shipping if anyone's interested. It's the same Z link that Petroworks provides with their PS kit.

James
