I know all of you have different experience with all brands. What's my best bang for the buck? What do you think of the milemarker's? and electric or hydrolic? thanks y'all

I personally chose hydraulic because they are a lot stronger, and there is no electric motor to burn up. After being stuck in the river and watching a guy burn up a brand new Warn trying to get me out, failing, then trying to pull himself back to dry land, I knew I wanted something stonger and more enudring. I checked into both quite a bit before deciding hydraulic was best for me. The hydrualic winches can run all day without getting hot, and with the engine at idle. Here's a couple links about the milemarker.

These are some of the sites that helped me decide. It's really a personal preference though. Electrics are a lot easier to hookup, and can run without the engine on, but not very long before your battery runs dead.
If you decide to get a milemarker, search ebay. There's a guy selling them brand new for really cheap. I got the 10,500lb. 2 speed, with all hookups, for $770. If you look in the catalogs, the winch alone costs like $1100, plus $250 for the hookups. Search around, there's more crap out there about this than you can believe. Good luck!

It was an easy decision for me as well. I went with a sturdy electric. There are many trail where hydralics are not allowed, due to not being able to steer while winching. Added to the fact that you can't go ANYWHERE when the engine dies, it was an obvious choice for me.

I don't know about other hydraulic winches, but the mile marker ones allow you to steer. This is what my manual says:
"The mile marker valving system is designed to default to the power steering gearbox so power steering is always available even when the winch is in use."

I'm wondering then why so many trails have outlawed their use.
Again, with a dead engine, you get out of that mudhole with an electric. With a hydralic, you have someone ELSE get you out! Easy choice for me!

I'd say get a warn or other hydrolic. If you roll or are in deep water it aint going to work if you have a hydrolic where as if you have an electric w/ a good dual battery set up you will be set if you are burried to above the hood in water and since you have a manual tranny you could always "push start" your rig.
