Hello, I need some help please. My brother in laws 91 Explorer tranny will not shift into overdrive.(auto) He has replaced the modulator and replaced the fluid. Is this a electronic control tranny ? Please post any ideas. Thanks Ken
In my Economics class I had a guess speaker. He was from Car Checkers of America and lectured about buying new and used cars. Two cars that he recommended not buying, were Ford Taurus and Explorers. He refered to Explorers as "Ford Exploders," because the transmission has plastic parts in it and tends to go out. He said the early 90's Ford Explorers transmission sucked, but the problem was fixed in the new Ford Explorers. Seems like Explorers are prone to transmission problems(could be plastic parts). Just my 2 cents.
Im sorry but I would not belive a CHECKER person for s**t.
Yes Explores are in the Ford tech world known as Exploders but not for the trans, for the front auto hubs.
To try and answer the oringinal question;
Could be a PCM problem, pull the DTC's and see what codes you get, could also be a internal trans seal, but most likely the first.
