u-joints - where to buy?

I changed my oil on the CJ and doing the usual maintenance. While greasing everything, I noticed I had installed one of the driveshaft u-joints backwards, so I couldn't get to the zirk. So I pulled the shaft, and in the process of removing the u-joint, POP goes a cap, and tinkle tinkle tinkle went all the pins. X3. Luckily, I had a spare, but now I don't have any extras.

I went to Advance Auto, who didn't have any more of the Super Joints I was using (or something along those lines). Today I went to Napa, Auto Zone and Pep Boys. NONE have Dana/Spicer (no, Napa didn't have them), and they all tried to sell me the Brute Force, which aren't greasable.

So...where do y'all get your u-joints?

I get mine through NAPA. If you have a problem finding one, let me know and I'll get it and ship it down to you.

next time that happens...just put the zirk in to fill it and then allen head cap in the same size and forget about it...lots of time saved by doing this...

Alot of places have lifetime u joints, but the extra $5 FOR PREMIUM ONES IS WORTH IT, BECAUSE YO HAVE TO YANK YOUR DRIVESHAFT OUT AND REPLACE IT, NOT TO MENTION THE wear on your shaft if it comes out at high speeds or takes out a muffler

Darn, I hate it when I forget the brand names. I just bought a pair last night and at first look, they were just like the "BRUTE FORCE" ones but, there was a small screw in the pack with the snap rings and it didn't look at first like a zerk. It is and of all places it screws into the cap - not the body. That might explain the weird screw configuration. I've never seen that before. At least they're greasable.

Whoah. Forgot I had it in the box. The brand is "PRECISION" and the model is "SUPER STRENGTH" Heavy-Duty High Performance Joints. They're made in the USA. For the Wrangler I used PN# 280 They are a Federal-Mogul driveline product (based in Chicago).

Now is that way more info then you needed?

LittleFoot, the kind you are talking about is the Heavy Duty version, which NAPA sells. But they're $22 each. The screw you're talking about is a zirk fitting, but you need the special needle attachment to use it.

Thanks for the info, Mark. I'll call NAPA and see if they can special order them. Jim, I'll also price the local driveline shop. I've been looking for an excuse to go there anyway.
