I have a 72 ScoutII with a 392 from a TA. My 3 core radiator is shot, can I put a 4 core in without any trouble. I have about an inch between the radiator and the fan.
That seems pretty close already to me,off road with flexing it will be even closer. If it were me I'd go to a radiator shop and tell them you want to run a four core radiator but are concerned about the distance between the radiator and the fan,They may be able to make a radiator for you that will give you more clearance.Another solution would be to convert to an electric fan set up which would give you the benefit of being able to have a switch to shut the fan off in deep water.
I like the sound of the electric fan conversion! And yes, I did have an incident with the fan getting into the radiator on one off road trip. No major damage though, just bent the blades a little.
I have a question as to where I'd mount the new fan though. A friend said maybe in front of the radiator. Will this conversion be fairly simple and inexpensive? Thanks for taking the time to help out!!
There are two types of electric fans pushers and pullers, pushers push air thru the radiator from the inside of the compartment more or less between the motor and the radiator.Pullers pull air and are mounted between the radiator and the grill. To keep cost down you could shop your local junk yard.Insalation should be fairly simple. Here is a link to a site that shows a conversion on a Jeep(not my site but a great article)http://www.geocities.com/zozir/ hope this helps you out it should give you all the info you need to get it done.
God I love people thet reply!!!!! Do you know of anyone that has done this to their scout? I'm anxious to find out how it's worked out for them! Thank you very much for the help!
No I don't know any one who has done this to thier scout just Jeeps but I don't see how there would be any differance between doing it on a scout as apposed to doing it on a jeep.
Thanks again. I'm going to go ahead and do it next month.
