hi, im ready to have my gears done, but i need a new carrier for my rear axel. but instead of buying a new carrier i would like to buy a detroit locker. doesn anyone know the part number for the locker that replaces the carreir and not just the spider gears.
this is for a 87 YJ with a D35. thanks
Matt
-snip-All detroit soflockers replace the carriers the only one that does not is the ez-locker -snip-
(FYI) if you didn't already know, a detroit for a full floater 14bolt uses the stock carrier. I think its the only axle that does, thats why they are a couple hundred less. Just some almost useless info,,, /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif
Hey, I'd wait and get a d44 instead of putting any cash into your d35, your profile is pretty vauge so I'm not sure if you have a 4.0 or 2.5 but if you are really desperet to change gears and have the 4.0 you can swap in 4.10:1 gears and if need be carriers from a 4 bnager YJ for cheep using used gears. then you won't be out as much if you swap in a d 44 rear. A good d44 rear to swap in is one from an 87-89(think that's the right years though it might go a year or 2 either way) xj or mj w/ the towing or metric ton/ heavy duty pkg's. This is the only axle w/ the right bolt pattern though you will need to move the spring mount because xj's ar spring over and mj's don't have the right sping width. I would even consider swapping a d44 front from a wagoneer or better yet a set of either d44's or a d44 front and heavy duty m20 rear (actually stronger than a d44). Then you arn't spending cash twice on your axles, if 35's and you like the go pedal or larger tires are in your feature consider d60's.

I agree with the points that you may not want to put too much $$ into a Dana35. Do a little research, and you will likely find that most people will recommend that you upgrade to a Dana44, or the 8.8 out of a Ford Explorer. Yeah, there are upgrade kits for the D35 that replace the axles and such, but the weak point of the axle is considered to be the housing, which is not improved by these kits.
I run 33s on a Dana35 with a 258 6 cyl., but I've left it open diff (no locker), and call for the winch cable rather than pressing the stupid pedal too much. /wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif My D35 still makes some weird noises going around corners, so I know it's on its way out.
All I'm saying is try to do some research before you plunk down your hard-earned clams. You will be thankful in the end.
I pick up my 8.8 Explorer axle on Saturday morning. /wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif
