How would you rate the NP 205 vs. a D18/20/300? Where is a good place to find a NP 205, ie what vehicles came with them from the factory. Doesn't the NP 205 come in a divorced version? Again, what vehicle would I find one of those in? Thanks
Also, what sort of t cases do they put in 1 ton trucks.
I got mine out of a 76 Blazer. I believe most 70's part time GM's had them, not sure of the years. My 82 GMC does not. They are bullet proof, but not as low geared as the d20 and d300.
I don't know too much about this, but I'm pretty sure that all of the dodge 205's are divorced. I've got an article in 4wheel & off-road with all the info. I'll post it tomorrow when I get home from work.

NP205 is much stronger than any jeep t-case,but the gearing is not as good. One problem you might have with putting one in a CJ5 is that it is longer than a jeep t-case, so your rear driveshaft will be even shorter than it is now, and if your jeep is lifted a lot, you will go through U-joints fast.
Not sure if this is the article that "gmoody" was thinking of, but in the April 2000 issue of 4Wheel & Off-Road, there is a pretty good article pertaining to the NP 205 T-case among others. According to the article, it can be found in the following vehicles:
'69-'73 Blazers and Jimmys w/ auto trans.
'73-'74 Jimmys w/ auto trans
'70-'73 GMC pickups and Suburbans
'75-'79 GMC and Chevy pickups w/ manual trans
'78-'79 Broncos
'81-87 Chevy and GMC K3500 pickups
'69-'74 Dodge Power Wagons
'80-'84 Power Wagon W200s, W250s and W300s
'76-79 Ford F-150s & F-250s
'76 Int'l pickups (probably other years too, but this one I know first-hand) /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif.
Additional Info:
NP-205 has a low range of 1.96:1. Can be combined with part of a NP-203 to obtain the low range ratio of 3.96:1 (probably not adviseable in a CJ-5 however). Can be converted to a twin-stick setup fairly easily if so desired.
That info should give you a start as to where to look for one of these cast-iron beasts. Hope it helped a little bit!
They were also found behind the heavy 3/4 ton Chevy trucks in the early 80's. My brother just picked up a 3/4 ton '83 with it behind the SM465, slip yoke of course.

It's a Jeep, Chevy, IHC kinda thing!
I have one behind a 454/Th400 setup in an '88 chevy crew cab. very strong. The 1-ton crewcabs had the 205 until 91. The TH400/205 would be good for your 1-ton drive line or maybe a 4L80E/205(wish I had overdrive, even with 38's and 4.10 axle gears)
