ok guys, i need some help. I have a 89 s-10 blazer 4x4 with the 4.3 engine. the tranny and tranfer case only have 20k on them. but the valves are tapping breifly when i start it up and every now and then when the engine is warm. I was wondering if there is a easy remidy or should i get the heads rebuilt/new heads or should i get a hole new engine??? thanks guys
What's your oil pressure at start up and when it starts tapping? What viscosity of oil do you use? What's the temperature around when you fire up the engine? Just some thoughts...
well, latley its been about anywhere from0-15 degress when i started it, i run 10w-30 oil, i have oil pressure anywhere from little lower than the middle of the gage all to all the way at the top.
i had the same prob with my 2.8... the valve tap is caused by no oil to the top of the engine.. common when its cold(thicker oil flowes slower) so there's your first prob, the valve tap is heard when??? accerlation? deaccelration? cruse idle??? and what is the pressure when it taps?? if the pressure is high and its tapping, plugged oil holes(pushrods, oil passages) if it starts tapping when the oil is really low (under13psi way at the bottom of the gauge) then its your oil pump.
Hope i helped... you all allways do
