Ok, sorry about the plethora of winch related questions...if it ain't one thing, it's another, ya know. I forgot to add this to the other post. The winch also needs a new cable... 150' of 5/16 cable. The cheapest I've yet found it is $169...roughly a bit more than a buck a foot. I'd like to keep the original length (I know it's long and all, but it'd be handy on the farm), but that's a bit steep. Anyone know of a cheap place to find good, heavy winch cable? What's the minimum size I'd want to run on a 8000# winch? BTW, it looks like the cable that's on it is 3/8s, instead of the original 5/16...any suggestions?

jc whitney sells the galvanized cable 5/16" for .59 cents a foot.. min of a 100 foot order.. am ordering mine monday.. since none of the local places can match it..
its just braided galvanized steel cable.. 5/16" is what came on my warn 8000i..
but i just checked out that master pull.. mmmm.. i like.. i like.. think i will get some of that.. little pricey.. but i like it.. no more kinks..
I noted that several of the competetors in the recent Farmington ARCA event had the blue Masterpull rope/cable on thiers...... looks like good weight savings ...
Weight savings...heh heh heh...After I get this custom, bombproof winch mount done, whatever weight I'd save will be irrelevant. /wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif

Pat was on a trail ride last May in the Premier Welder Bronco with us. He sells the nylon cable and used it in front of us. It worked great and allowed the winch to run more efficiently. Chad
Just found out...not all galvanized cable is the same. Most hardware stores sell "wire rope". It looks the same on the outside but has an actual nylon rope core.
Just got back from Manchester Sling Company. They had two kinds of cable. The cheap stuff that everyone puts on their winches (about $0.32/ft) and real winch cable (according to the guy) for $0.39/ft. I bought a new hook also ($17.23). They did a very nice job of attaching the hook. The hole deal, including tax, cost me $81.98 for 150 feet.
They are located in Houston and Beaumont, Texas. Phone: 800-392-5510
