I replaced my manual fan with electric this weekend. It took me longer to figure out how i wanted to wire it than to install. I have it wired with a tempeture switch to turn it on when it warms up to a certian temp. I also used the manual switch inline so that I can turn off the fan in deep water crossings.

this is what I learned.

1. Get the largest fan you can get to fit. (More air flow the better) Measure the width and hight of the radator fins.

2. you do not have to remove the radator to install the fan just losen it up at the frame.

3. I set mine up as a pusher and mounted it in the front of the radiator. The instructions that come with the fane explain how to do this.

4. If you want to replace the stock manual fan then you will need a temperature activated switch the maker of the fan will have them .

I do not have the slight overheating (got warmer than i wanted)issue I have had since the installation of the 1.6 at idle. The motor serems to spin up easer and have a little extra at the higher RPMs.

Sorry for the book and the spelling.

No sorrys, i like books. What kind of fan did you use, how much $, and you say its push style into your 1.6L? Since you measured the fan width and length, can you share some specs on it? Thanks a bunch, Max

I ran with only an electric fan last year with no problems, used as a puller fan (pulled air through rad), This summer I reinstalled my mechanical fan and moved my elect to the front of the rad. I did not notice any power increases with out the mechanical fan.
I went to Autozone (if you have these in your area) and bought the smallest fan they had, and the temp switch, I sandwiched it between the hood latch and the splash shield, I didn't even have to mount it to the rad. Check the attached pict out
