It's getting close to that time again so lets here what kind of wrenching needs to be done to get your HEEP's ready for this years BASH!!!!
I'll Start it.
Pulled the front clip off the TJ to fix the carnage from my roll last year. Finally found a used grill not really for the right price but oh well.
This past weekend:
Removed Hood
Removed Hood Hinges
Fixed dings and dents in my replacement hood(looks new if I say so myself)
Painted hood.(Yes Aaron I kept some red on it but not all, you will just have to see)
Painted new hood hinges.
Installed new hinges
Installed new/used hood
Removed grill and stripped it down
Removed Both Fenders(Going in the TRASH)
Here is what I have left to do:
Cut holes in new grill for turning signals(I have a set for a 48 willys truck I think they will look cool)
Fix ding in new/used grill
Paint new grill
Install grill
Install Radiator
Build my tube fenders
Paint tube fenders and install
Change front axle inners seal(what a pain in my a$$)
Let's see right before the weekend of the 28th for our spring opener
-DS tire is off with the broken shaft pulled out, so I have to pick up a big joint shaft tomorow and put it in
-Get t-case to shift right, maybe twin stick it
-Get trans to shift right
-Weld rear
-Build a roll bar/ cage if I have the pipe to put a front hoop in
-Do some sheet metal work for the floors, right now mud/ snow nails me in the nutz
-Mess with the carb a little more
Other stuff I'd like to do before the badlands
-Build front/ rear bumpers/ winch mount
-Build rocker guards
-Build a skid plate for the gas tank/ t-case
At the camp ground thursday night
-Put in 297 jointed long side shaft that i'll have the badlands shorten so it's ready to pickup when I roll into town.
Oh yeah I hope I don't break anything at our spring opener up here, then I have 4 days to fix the bronco before I leave marquette and go to make $$ for a couple weeks before the bash.
Anyone planning on bringing a welder to the bash? I'd like to tack in the joints on the shaft.
Put new chain in spare transfer case.
Swap in spare transfer case.
Replace front pinion bearings.
Install tranny cooler.
Install front driveshaft with new u-joints.
All I REALLY need to do it put up a couple batches of pickled eggs and a pot o' chili, and grease and wash the Jeep. Yeah, I like to start out with it clean so that when it's over I can tell how much fun I had.
I dug my poor neglected pile out of a pile of junk stacked around it and took it out to Badlands last weekend. There are some new and strange noises... Ahh who cares? I will check and/or dump/fill all the fluids, maybe even pull the front bearings apart just to check. But at this point there's no motivation to clean it.
A secondary reason for going out to Badlands was that I couldn't get the campground folks to answer their phone. Stopped in and talked to Don, they had just come home from Texas... More on that conversation later.
Glad you are coming this year Will.
So about those pickled eggs... Hot or mild?? Maybe both would be fun, breakfast and dinner versions.
I have worked a bit on my test site to make it this years Information Page. One of the things that we have put together in the past is an Emergency Phone list. A list of our phone numbers that might help if you have a problem traveling to/from The Bash. Like the marinara sauce, it's in there (if you register and fill out the information). This year I thought that an Emergency Notification list might also be handy (and that's in there too). Idea being if something happens to you - who do you want us to call and notify of a problem/emergency. The Phone List will be available to all registered users. The Notification List will only be available to JBTater (Jim Biles) and myself.
Pack, go to China, come home, check the trailer wheel bearings and tires, check the jeep then pack again...
I had hopped to put in the NP435 this spring, but ended up traveling too much. I have the adapter installed, all the parts, just needed the time to install it.
If anyone else needs anything special and they don't want to drag it on their long trip to Attica let me know. I am only an hour away so not a big deal for me.
I will bring my small Hobart welder and accessories for repairs.
You guys comming from Cali let me know if you need anything.
Brad
