A buddy at work has a 96 Silverado C1500 with the Vortec 5.0 L. Problem is his A/C clutch does not free-spin easily when the A/C is not engaged. I think there is a bad bearing too, as the pulley looks a little wobbley.
I checked Autozone for a "tool" to remove the clutch/pulley and they do NOT have one for
96 and later.
Anybody removed this pulley?
What, where, and how much was the pulley removal tool?
I don't think they are removeable. Take the a/c unit out and replace it with a non a/c pulley. Gm sells them, its a common thing to replace, they all go bad. It's like 30 bucks or something
okay, well tha laternator size makes a difference of a little bit. i looked up the size for the 105amp alternator.
with AC takes a 967K6 belt and without is a 872K6 belt. your best bet though is to call a parts store and check with them one you figure out what the alt output is. sorry i couldnt giveyou a more definitave answer.
they are not the GM numbers. those are the nu,mbers that any parts store will stock. the last digits (K6) refers the the six rib width.
the other numbers refer to the length. 967K6 is a belt thats 96.7 inches long and 6 ribs wide. if you give anyone those part numbers they'll know what you mean
Well, my buddy had a garage do the repair.
$1100, new Compressor (remanufactured) with clutch, evap/condensor, tensioner & belt.
Although his truck is 2 wd, it has about the same miles and is the same year as mine. So we keep each other up with what breaks. Sorta, "what to expect next"..... My A/C is fine, but I do have a small coolant leak (intake).
Ouch!!!
