I finally got to Roanoke to get my Jeep...let's just say...don't buy a Jeep off E-bay...
Anyways...I have to let the clutch pedal out about 3/4 of the way before it grabs..is this a simple adjustment of the linkage..and if so, which way does it need to go? Otherwise, what else can I do to fix this? BTW 304 w/3spd tranny
I agree with Jim_Lou. It could be either. The adjustment is a threaded arm next to the release arm. You would want to extend it about 2-3 full turns. That's 2 or 3, not 23.
ahh, you can that clutch in the 304 till the linkage is scary unsafe looking.... The other thing to look for, the bellcrank on our cj's are pieces of
. Mine has been really scary looking for a while and I think a complete new bellcrank setup is only like 50 bucks. I am actually going to breakdown and buy one before she lets go while I am driving. Even though you only need the clutch for first and reverse....
Yes I am scared of what I keep finding on this thing. I tried to adjust the linkage, but the jam nut is pretty well frozen in place. I don't want to torque it too hard and risk something breaking. I'll work for sure on it when I get it home...if I get it home..
I can already see that I have lots more work to do that expected, but I guess thats the way it goes.
not sure how far home is, but your best bet is probably to limp it home and then give it a good look over. Its a project, and hopefully you understood that when you bought it. (what jeep isn't a project??? Except maybe a j-truck!)
