Hi all, new to board, was referred here for possible help to my prob. Have 94 xlt 5.8L.AOD Having prob w/ tranny/speed sensor. Here's problem-hope someone can help or point me in right direction. Trannny kicks through gears when engine hot. On my 5th speed sensor (original + 4th new). Each time have prob was told speed sensor code comes up they replaced sensor and would be fine. Last one held out 2 yrs. After started kicking again, replaced sensor myself-didn't work. Went to dealer-couldn't help because tranny not acting up when they looked at it. On short rides, tranny smooth as glass not a prob. Seems to be after driving for 1/2 hr or more(or whenever it wants), tranny will go from being perfect to kicking. Gears not slipping, just hard kick b/t them going up, and slightly less of kick when downshifting. Biggest kick b/t 1st and 2nd. Is this something someone has heard of?, and what should I have mechanic specifically look for when I bring it in since it naturally won't happen when I make service appt. Sorry it's so long, but not straight forward ? as you can see. Thank you in advance for any help. Tim.

That is strange. I have a question though. What makes you say or think you have an A4OD tranny? Starting in 91 Ford used the E4OD. Sounds like it may be a computer problem. Maybe someone else will chime in with a better idea. By the way welcome of the site. You can get lots of great info and help here.

Have you had the fluid changed lately? BTW-it is a E4OD, unless you swapped in and AOD. Mine was rebuilt about a year ago and I still am not pleased with it's performance, One of my larger pet peavs of this truck. Are the teeth on the sensor broken? Each time you replaced it?

truck has 86k miles, had tranny service (filter, fluid) at 45-50k. last time replaced sensor in Philly while on vacation. Went to Lincoln dealer who replaced sensor, and also replaced the connector clip. Said they got it off a Continental which is same per dealer. Also, I checked the teeth on sensor, and they looked ok. Just don't know why 5 sensors going bad

I would check the wiring going to the sensor, all the way up to the computer then pull the computer and check the pins on it maybe some build up and shorting the sensor out/ A little stumped though, raelly sounds like computer electronic problem.-Bob
