37\'s MTR\'s look big on Bronco!

Now I've done it, 6 mo's same as cash, and I've maxed out the axels and lift. First set of tires that have truely looked big on the Bronco. I likey, pretty quiet on the road, now I got to get out and use them. Anyone have an old 37X12.5X15 I could use as a spare? These actually measure 36.4 inches I think. Dam I think I'm done with the Bronco for a while, exept for the trac bar.

Thanks! It has been almost two years since I rolled my 84 and I have just now got this baby where I want it. Took much time and cash to get everything swapped over to the new 1990. Of course I have dreams of going bigger. I was luckey to get these tires, Goodyear has 37's on a one month backorder. They were ordered in to dicount for a guy who changed his mind. Sold my 35X12.5X15's in the parking lot.
Attachment of old 84 above, dam I almost cried when I rolled that.

I used to think so too when I first got mine. Now they look small.

The thing is without more lift I couldn't go any bigger, I already cram my 37's into my firewall when stuffed. Several of the lips on my firewall have been mangled and it sounds kinda bad too............fart, fart, fart LOL

I hope ya got 'em from Discount

Dang that's an articulate bronco! Very nice! You could put 44's on that and they would look smaller with the amount of fender you have removed. Why not put 3 inches of body lift on and go bigger? What axels are you running? I figure I may break and have to go to a solid 44 at least. I saved my old axels and yoke.

thats what i hate aboiut a front shackle reversal. it munches the tires agains tthe firewall, but off course theres no big shackle hanging down in the front, and the tires climb the obstacle better.

Sweet Blown, you will find this is an excellent tire.
Oh, don't let anyone tell you these don't self clean well in mud either! I was trying to get out of my driveway this last weekend and the neighbor had it blocked. We share a drive off the end of a cul de sac. Anyway to get around him, I just drove into the grass parkway area. In Oregon this time of year, and it being a catch area, I knew it was pretty gooey. It sunk, and sunk and sunk (no bottom in site). I was in 2wd, and the Detroit finally dug me a 12 inch grave on each side, but man was the mud flying. First time I ever did some wheelin at my own house. Not sure the neighbors were real happy. Makes the neighborhood look all redneckish my wife says (the amount of mud I carried down the street was hilarious). Anyway, I did have to get out, lock hubs, put it in 4WD and engage front locker to get out. But, they Spin MUD!!!!

Burned, I recall in Shilo's writeup a thought about this, moving the assembly forward. you bring up a good point, just not sure it can be accomplished without some major difficulty. think it was the end of the front frame and a body mount causing some problems. I am interested in any response you have though Shilo, because I think if/when I venture down the solid 44 path, it will be with leafs, and having owned a jeep, nothing better than the reverse shackle if it can be done. I still don't think the 37's will be going on though. The 35's, though they have "shrunk"
are still allright by me.

Re: 37\'s MTR\'s look big on Bronco!

I was looking and wondering about cutting the front fender from the top of the turn signal back to the door. then bending some tube to support what's left of the fender and inner plastic fender. I saw a toy done that way also saw him rub it along a rock. It protected the turn signal and took the abuse while the fender might have been peeled back or at least dented/scraped. I trimmed 3 1/2 inches from the rear of the front and back fender wells. I tapered the front and rear in about 8 inches up. I had already cut the rear quarter panel up to the tailgate.
I got out early this am and put it through the paces, got it angled 45 degrees across a ditch to were I could play teeter totter with it. The opposing tires were about 6 inches off of the ground. Stuffed the others completely and no rub even when turning. Then I had to go air it out once I saw I had the clearance. What a frikkkkking rush!

I just finished painting it last week end. I put the marine blue metalflake on to cover the old disco stripes of blue, silver, violet, and purple. I also had missmatched doors. I sanded and shot right over the old and clear coated it. I did it with spray cans, that duplicolor stuff actually has a nice 4 inch fan at about 8 inches away from the surface. It looks great from a distance, old stripes tellegraphed through and I did no body work.

Yea, but Shilo the pics you show there are just putting down a trail. I don't know of any tire, except a full out no compromise mudder like a bogger, that when you get into some sticky clay type mud on the trail it won't clog up. I see swampers do the same thing. Now, give it some gas and clean 'em out. I had no trouble with them. They will carry sticky mud more readily than any bigger void tire. But, for what they are, and the forward bite/momentum I have felt, they have worked great, IMO.

Re: 37\'s MTR\'s look big on Bronco!

I struggled for every inch in those pics above. The MTR lugs are just too close together for stuff like that. The big lugs and big voids of a Swamper woulda clawed me up much better.

Re: 37\'s MTR\'s look big on Bronco!

my TSL's on my zuk dont clog up like that in the gooey mud, and im just in low low 1st anbd second and the mud just falls out of the tread. they really self clean, and the MTRs on other rigs on the same trails are revving the motors wide open trying to get traction.

Re: 37\'s MTR\'s look big on Bronco!

Is that MUD stuck in those tires? Aren't those TSL's? Look a the frame above.

I like my MTR's and usually avoid mud. I don't care to tear/rut the trails up. I have never had a mud and snow tire that is so quiet. I hear my engine better and wind. Suppose we could have a pissin match: Mud here is thicker, stickier than anywhere, it's bentonite clay and the bricks in my house are made out of it. I can shoot a stream of urine 10 feet and with that kind of pressure I can clean the voids out!
Anyway I think they are good tires and I bet they'll get me through the mud when needed. It was an MTR or TSL decision for me. If I did mud or lived in a wetter environment I would have gone withthe TSL's Suppose it does depend on where you are and what you do.

Re: 37\'s MTR\'s look big on Bronco!

ya, they are kinda gummed up, but what do you expect when its sitting and spinning in the dirt trying to get and out of thar rock pile? My tires where maybe spinning at a 1/4 mile an hour since i was hung up and i was just letting the engin eidle in low, low, first when i was jokying the wheel back and forth trying to get off the trees. they are kinda clogged, but there is no wheel spin going on, and then are still not mud clogged donuts.

Re: 37\'s MTR\'s look big on Bronco!

I may get to one of those zuks one day. I saw two of those do a 4++ rocktrail here called Patriot. Simple yet very effective. Spring swaps, 33's, low gears in t-case and Lincoln lockers. The only vehicle that made it look easier was a built rock buggy. The Zuk owners are local and had much experience on the trail. I like the idea of towing one out to play with.

Re: 37\'s MTR\'s look big on Bronco!

towing a vehicle to the trail is the only way to wheel. thats how both my rigs get to the trails. it makes the trip much more fun. the only thing you then have to worry about is getting the broken truck back to the the trailer and winched on the trailer. you can fix what you broke permanent in your own garage rather than on the side of the trail. not worrying about getting home lets you go all out when you wheel. and to think, that was on the first day of the 3 days of wheeling the i did on the short wheelbase jeep board's badlands bash, which i somehow wound up being the trail leader of.

Re: 37\'s MTR\'s look big on Bronco!

hey Zach, there's a tree there!
did you slide off that rock under your diff to get into that position? how'd you get it outta there? looks like fun

TSLs have some serious tread void... I used to tear up the mud with a guy on 38.5/16's and those tires would throw baseballs with even a little tire spin, and if there was just a tiny bit of water on top of the mud there was no way he could pack the tread. we have some nasty sticky clay areas around here too that will make my tires look like drag slicks, but even that junk wouldnt stop him. if you spun a TSL fast enough in that kind of claymud, you could probably dent your hood when those suckers come flying back down!
Zach isnt really trying to clean them out in that pic, but trust me if you run TSLs or even the wide radial TSLs, you'll have no problem cleaning them out.
