To get a mid 70's Scout II that is in mediocre/poor condition vehicle cleaned up, repainted, with some mods like a lift, new tires, new soft top.

I realize that this is a very bit estimate but I've wanted for years to get a Scout II.

I usually see Scouts that run in mediocre/poor condition go from anywher from $1000 to $2000. Then from there it just depends on how much work you do yourself (like doing all the body work and paint, blah, blah, blah) and how big ya want to make it, the more extreme ya want to go the more $$$$ it will cost.

I did a little looking around and found Scouts all the way from $600 to $15000 (very beautiful condition).
I think I am gonna have to wait a little while before I can save up the money for a full size truck (daily driver) and then I'll start pushing for a trail rig harder, however it would be tempting to get a Scout for a daily driver.. any thoughts on this from someone who has one?

I'm not sure about the going price is on Scouts, but good condition ones will probably cost quite a bit. They're bad when it comes to rust. My father owns a 1978 IH Scout II with a 345 V8 and 727 tranny. It's in very good condition with just over 100,000 miles on it, but not for sale. He's had it since '79 and has to cut out and fix a few small rust spots over the years, but still looks great. It also has the off-road Ralley package. Daily driver? Only if your don't mind a gas hog. His has stock 3.08 gears and it goes through gas. His sits in the garage and comes out only in big snows or to pull the boat. Overall, BEST 4x4 EVER MADE. End of story.

I think a Scout would make a good daily driver. They actually dont do too bad on gas (compared to other trucks) if set up right. It's not too uncommon for 12+ mpg. I calculated mine one time with half in town and half highway and I averaged about 13 mpg. That was with a 2 barrel, 345, 4 spd, 31s and I still havent figured out the gear ratio.

It is kinda squirly, but it needs new spring bushings and shorter shackles.

Only drawback is that you will most likely have to spend some time and money to get it to a safe DD condition.
