i have a 78 yamaha 75-80 cc motor im trying to get running. i think the problem is the shifter someone broke something on it at some point but i cant get to it unless i take off the clutch basket. but when i try to take the nut off the middle everything turns. i noticed the sprocket also turned with it should i stick a wrench on the nut holding on the sproket. will that hold it so i can get the nut off were the basket is? thanks
You are supposed to have a special tool. It looks like a clutch plate with a handle on it. I think you should still be able to find one or you can if you have or know someone that has a welder you can make one out of an old clutch plate and a piece of steel rod.
I'm not sure this will fit your bike but it will give you an idea what one looks like.
