low/erratic oil pressure?

Well I've been enjoying my new 87 Burb quite a bit driving it around today and noticed that the oil pressure would read really low idling in drive when it was warmed up. I checked the level and it was a little low and dirty so I changed it and filled it up with 5 quarts. Now if I put it in park it would go up a little and if I rev the engine it goes up or if I start to drive it goes right up too. I did some searching and it seems to be a common problem, most likely the sending unit or possibly a ground between the body and frame? Is it pretty common for it to be the sending unit? I dont hear any clacking or rattling at idle so I think the pressure is actually good. Besides if it was dropping to 0-1psi wouldn't the fuel pump shut off automatically? Just worrying about my new truck, I really love driving it and would hate to have to lay it up for an engine rebuild. BTW its an 87 3/4 ton 4WD with a 350/TH400. Thanks

my 94 acts the same way. cold it has plenty of pressure. at idle when warm down around 20psi whie driving its up around 60 or so. then ocasionally it'll just bounce around by 10psi. i think mine is just the sensor. but i hear noi valve clatter either and I'm not too worried about it. its done this for the last 20K miles as far as iknow
