Came across this rock buggy on Peterson's website. If car companies start making IFS like this, you better believe I would be saving my money up for one.
Looks beefy alright. But, I bet you could install a SFA set up for cheaper than what that one will cost. That is what they should be putting under IFS equiped trucks though.
Oh and by the way, the pumpkin is a Dana 60. It also has IRS which is just as beefy as the front. I bet it would take a lot of poundin to break something on that mofo.
Yeah, but that IFS/IRS system can go places where a giant D60/14FF case won't go. I bet that thing is awesome in the mud, no [bleep] hanging down except the tires.
I think I've seen one like this before. It used Dana 60 center sections front and rear out of early nineties Dodge 1 tons with center axle disconnect. They did it so they could make it FWD, RWD, or 4WD.
Someday I'm going to build one only use Furd 9" center sections so I can swap from 4.10:1 to 6.0:1 in an hour.
I don't know. They're pretty complex and the tolerances for manufacturing aren't there.
IRS is pretty simple. You can use Jesse's front driveshafts for each wheel in the back (www.highangledriveline.com).
However, the front is far more complex. You've got to be able to turn those tires as well. Baja/stadium trucks have done it but they don't last. You need something that will last at least 100k miles. I mean, the current CV system in IFS trucks can be changed without taking the front of the truck apart so it's no big deal if one goes bad.
Tim, someone else, and I discussed Porsche's CV system because it's a lot better than what anyone else uses. But it's high dollar. GM would either have to find something cheaper or not do it.
The next problem is do you want those CV shafts turning all the time? Nope. So that means you'd have to figure out a lockout system. Dana 60-like outers seems like a good solution.
