Short Course-Ranger, Toyota, or Nissan?

Hey guys, what do you guys recommend for building up a short course truck? The class allows for some mods to suspension, engine, but has to stay 4 cylinder. Any ideas on what is cheapest, most competative, and will be fairly durable? thanks for the help. Scott

Re: Short Course-Ranger, Toyota, or Nissan?

Well Scott, Even though I am a diehard chevy guy, I would probably give my vote to the Ranger. There is a world of aftermarket engine stuff for the 2.3. Also I believe that you could get more travel out of the front suspention. But I would have to give the Toyota a close second. There is some aftermarket stuff available for the 22R engine, and while the A-arm front suspention may not allow for as much travel, it may handle through the turns better.(May be more important for short course)As far as cost, I could find you alot more Rangers(At least in this area) than Toys, and the 2.3 I believe would be cheaper to build. Other than that cost would be similar.

I'm no expert just my opinion.

Let me know what you decide, Sounds like a cool project.

Yes, I figured the Ranger as the most cost effective choice....but, I have found a race ready Toyota at a great price. Do I build...or do I buy and race. : )

You ready to build anything yet? Are you coming up to the K.C. area anytime soon?
