Top Mud Challenge IV 06/23/2001

GUMBO's Top Mud Challenge IV will take place June 23rd, 2001 at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Montgomery City, Missouri. Tech & registration from noon to 3 with racing beginning at 4:00 p.m. 11 total classes (6 on the "Fast Track" and 5 in the "Pit"), 100% payout plus a $3,500 bonus purse. All competition 4x4's are welcome from daily drivers to supercharged Pro Modifieds. Class descriptions & more details can be foun on my web site (in the siggy).

In addition to the mud racing, there will be monster truck exhibitions & car crushing by Bigfoot, Bearfoot, and Wild Hair. There will be a monster ride truck on hand giving rides, and starting at noon in the parking lot, a 4x4 Show N Shine Contest (admittedly, I know very little about that as I'm only in charge of the racing, but hope to have contact info on my web site soon about that).

A good time to be had by all, be sure to be there!!!

Damn-it, it seems like all the fun stuff is out west. I'm from south eastern Massachusetts and its basically all towns in a normal country out here with not much for 4-wheeling unless I go to the berkshires [western ma.] to where it at least legal. I wish all states would be nice to open up some land for people like us so we could be doing it legally and without he fear of getting a motor vehicle tresspassing fine...I did go to the indy jamboree 2 years ago, a 940 mile-19 hour drive but a well worth cause, those trucks are unbelievable plus those mud drag, monster trucks, corr racing, and the tough trucks make it well worth the trip.

Yup, you pretty much hit the "mother load" when ya go to Indy. Too bad they don't have any deep mud anymore, but you get to see the cream of the crop from the mud "drag" guys there! You sound like a person in desperate need of a local club. We started one 10 years ago & since we don't have much access to trails, we put on events like mud races quite a bit. You'd be surprised how cheaply you can rent most local fairgrounds (one such place with seating for ~3,000 is $250 per day to rent, plus electric charge if you use it). Lots of work to do it entirely yourselves (and headaches with insurance & cleanup, etc), so we typically hire ourselves out to local civic groups like the Jaycees or the Eagles. We work for a flat fee & they make all the $$$ off the gate & concessions.

Yes you do! We're working desperately at this point to try to get at least one more event later this year. Possibly an invitation-only deal (you're on the invite list) with just 6 classes - all side by side "Fast Track". I think I described this on the EZ board for what we planned to do in November. BTW, that event is still not officially "off". Anyway, looking to maybe do one outdoors. Found a facility we can rent for $250 & it has nice bleachers. Only concern is the amount of shutdown. But, the last time they had a mud race there, they ran away from an open field that wasn't utilized. I haven't seen the facility, but suggested that if possible, we could run TOWARD that field & increase shutdown significantly. My promoter thought they only had about 300' total feet of room, but they had a race there with Modifieds & nobody crashed. So, I'm thinking his estimations stink. They did at O'Fallon. He said that was 250-300' & it ended up being over 500' . Anyhow, thinking August for that, so will let you know if anything comes of it.

Counting the days now - 73 to go! Gonna be a good one. Got at least three new Modifieds coming that have never raced with me before (one all the way from Michigan), and might get some pro stockers from Kentucky . Can you tell I'm getting excited?
