Re: does anyone here own a monster truck

The difference is, not anyone can afford to have a great big huge car crushing truck in there driveway. Where as anyone with a 4x4 can have the chance to mud race. And it is normally the guy who has built or customized his truck to his likeing that you will see racing.
I have grown not to like the monsters. They put all that money and power into a truck, just to go out and play demolishion derby. Now they are all into this free style crash em up junk.
It is not the fault of the truck drivers or builders. It is what the give me blood crowd wants. The crowd in general don't have a clue as to what it takes to make a car or truck go fast. They don't care you just had a perfect run and set a record at the mud drags, or asphalt drags, Nascar, or anywhere. They are a bunch of vultures waiting and wanting mass destruction.
Why don't you see NMRO on TV anymore? They shortened the tracks, took away the mud, and gave them guys a chance to survive. So now the crowds don't care for it as much, less crashes. They don't understand what it is like to travel across rough mud full bore at that kind of pace. So what they wreck a 30,000 dollar machine for a chance to win 1000 bucks, they just want to see something crash. And if the driver gets hurt, well, that is just a bonus.
It is just a shame that TV and promoters base there showings on these people, because the people who do care and respect the sports for what they are, are denied the chance to watch them.

Re: does anyone here own a monster truck

I'm not a huge fan of monsters either - or what they've become anyway. Outdoor side-by-side racing was pretty fun to watch. Indoors - even in the larger domes - they just can't stretch their legs enough to put on a show that keeps me interested. And the freestyle stuff is okay, but not as a replacement for actual racing. But, if you want to see more, here's a site Big Dawg. This guy is a member of our local club & has a brand new monster truck that he debuted just after the completion of Top Mud Challenge 2000 on July 4th.

I too think NMRO racing should be on TV again (or some sanctioning body), but I think to keep it interesting, they need to concentrate a little less on the blown cars & incorporate some of the lower classes into the segments. When they show 8-10 mud races on TNN a year & each one looks exactly like the last one..........well, how many times do you watch a rerun of your favorite show before you turn something else on? Obviously, the fastest classes should get top billing, but they need to show some of the other stuff going on - or better yet, go outside of NMRO & show some trucks in deep mud. That's not safe for the fast cars, but I'll tell you that the first street truck to clear my deep "Pit" on July 4th got 5 times the ovation of the guy who broke the G.U.M.B.O. Pro Modified record on the "Fast Track". That's just how it is.

About the only reason I watch the Monster Truck shows on TNN is to hopefully catch a glimpse of the tough truck competitions...

Grass roots racing at it's best

I agree though - too small an area in that indoor arena for the Monster Trucks to really show what they "can" do.

BTW, what is "NMRO"?

Re: does anyone here own a monster truck

It is funny you should say that. Monsters are coming here, and everyone I have talked to said they are going to see the tough trucks.
NMRO is the National Mud Racing Organization. Guys with way more time and money then me.
