Re: cheap bed liner

Anyone have a bad experience with this product? I'm about to have the tub blasted and this sounds like an attractive coating for the underside, especially since rhino-liner wants $800 for the underside and inside of tub. I tend to want to trust the Rust-oleum name over some of the other consumer applied products. I contacted Rust-oleum and they faxed me a technical sheet. It's self-priming Polyamide converted epoxy with ground up tires as the agrigate. The rep on the phone said that it gets hard similar to Rhino-lining when it dries. Rust-oleum reccomends rolling/brushing it on. Anyone know if it can be sprayed with a standard spray gun?

Re: cheap bed liner

From the description I'm guessing that the Rustoleum stuff is either licensed or rebadged Durabak/Herculiner bed liner. Good stuff, very tough, but not as thick as Rhinolining.

Re: cheap bed liner

I can't comment on this particular product .....but,... the Rustoleum product line IS NOT a rust inhibitor. If you have rust and don't sand it off and or don't put a sealer on the rust it will come back. I found this out when painting the wifes Jeep.

So if you have rust this will NO cure it.

Re: cheap bed liner

Joel - I've never seen Durabak/Herculiner applied first hand. Are those products also rolled/brushed? Can they be sprayed?

Mike - Considering that I'm having the tub blasted, would you still think some form of rust inhibitor would be required?

Re: cheap bed liner

Yes, it can be applied by roller, brush, or spray, and when it dries it's very rubbery, but not as easily cut as Rhinoliner.

My write-up on it is here: http://home.off-road.com/~nobucks/durabak.html

Re: cheap bed liner

Yes I would recommend that. But then again it is your Jeepster.

But you can get sealer primer; by the Gallon at any PPG auto paint place. Should run about 40-60 bucks, then get the reducer 4 to 1 so you actually will have a LOT left over for other parts.

Just my $.0000001 worth / between Toad and the government That is all I can offer.

I found the coupon code of spg621 to get $5.00 off the order. I haven't placed the order, but it looks like it will work.

Re: cheap bed liner

Just for info. Durabak is some high dollar stuff. I know it is not in the same class as Herculiner.

Re: cheap bed liner

Durabak is $100/gallon for black, $120 for colors, or at least, that's what I paid a few years ago. As far as I know, Herculiner only comes in black.

And, like someone said above, make sure you get rid of any rust before you lay the paint down, and don't get any on your hootus.
