I WANT TO REPLACE MY DANA 30 ON MY 88 JEEP WRANGLER BUT I DONT HAVE ANY IDEAS ON WHAT TO REPLACE IT WITH. I KNOW I DONT WANT A CUSTOM JOB TO MUCH MONEY IM LOOKING FOR A SWAP
EVEN IT IS A LITTLE STONGER THEN THE 30. I WAS EVEN THINKING OF REPLACING IT WITH A TJ FRONT END BECOUSE IT DOSNT HAVE THE FRONT DISCONNECT AXLE.. WHAT DO U THINK I SHOULD DO TO KEEP THE COST DOWN AS POSIBLE....THANKS JOEY D
get a front axle from a 1980 or newer full size wagoneer/grand wagoneer.. but keep in mind its 6 lug.. so i would take the rear axle with it.. then you will have a stronger front and rear.. same gear ratio.. and same lug pattern.. you will then need new rims..
Woh, stop yelling (all caps is yelling in the bbs world).
As for the front axle as others stated you'll want a wagoneer donor. Watch out that you get one without the vacuum disconect stuff. I can't remember the exact dates, but after 1980 they switch to a driver's drop, but added the vacuum stuff. Post '85 they got rid of it. The rear 44 may have to come from another vehicle as there are quadra-traks and HD amc20's mix into the years. They HD AMC 20 is a fine axle, but the gear ratio selection is less.
My name is Ted, and I'm a Jeep-a-holic.

jeep the first 4 wheel drive the only 4 wheel drive
I see what you were trying to say now. A front rear. Interesting terminology. Usually it's called a front diff or front axle. By the way, his 88 Wrangler and a TJ are on the same side, that being the drivers side. The '80 and newer Waggie axles you recommended are also drivers side. Now you know.
