Buggy Spring questions and pics?

hey all,

Since i have finally gotten around to buying a trailer to tow my CJ I am looking to do a few things to it.

One thing is rear buggy springs. I have an 84CJ7 4" SOA, 35Swampers. I do already have the ladder bar that I have made just like Sam's Offroad.

I noticed that 3/4TonYJ has done buggy springs but wasn't able to find much info. Anybody have any good pics, write-ups, opinions, etc?

I have a already found a set of Stock springs that I can use. Should I bolt them through the frame? Ubolts? How long should I make them? How much will i gain by doing buggy springs? I already have pretty good flex but Im bored and need more flex. I have a set of Rancho5102s that will also be going on the rear.

I will probably put a limiting strap on the diff also.

Thanks for helping.

Here try this out, I know there's a couple other sites around I just can't find them at the moment, I'm thinking of doing it next year.

Jersey,
So you have a 4" set of springs and SOA? I was thinking about doing that but I heard it was a no go. Do you have any pics? How does it ride?

Re: Buggy Spring questions and pics?

I don't know why you used 4" + SOA just to run 35's but if you are going to run buggies in the rear, cut the springs exactly in half. Mount them up high on the frame with u-bolts or drill and use bolts. Your going to need limiting straps because your CG is too high and with this amount of flex on off camber sections things are going to get real hairy for you. Sometimes more flex is bad, like when it takes away from stability. That's pretty much why Revolver shackles are a bad idea.

waiting on the 1-tons!

Re: Buggy Spring questions and pics?

Well I started with 4" SUA. And rubbed really bad with the 33's. So I put a body lift on for a few months. Than took the body lift off and went SOA with 35's. I can stuff the tires pretty good and they don't rub now. Thats what I want.

I am just looking for a little more flex. I DO PLAN on putting on a limiting strap to keep the pinion from lowering to far.
