Is GM Just as Green as Ford

I believe they are. Another major auto/truck mfr. sells out. Get the details of their partnership with The Nature Conservancy and other green groups at:

Brad,
Thanks for the work you do keeping us up to date.
I guess we're down to Dodge and Toyota.

Here in Maine the nature conservancy is working to strangle the St John River region, and the timber companies are helping them do it. It's like the Brink's Truck Robbery, watching an organized pack of thieves steal. Make a good movie -Bill Clinton should have a lead role in it.
Peace !

Re: Is GM Just as Green as Ford

So they support enviromental education and gave some vehicles to TNC... you should really cut out the Brazilian rainforest part, because as fas as I am concerned that IS a good thing... Every major company like ford and GM will to some extent have to be political and do some greeny work... those articles are not that frightening...

Do a little research on TNC's tactics, then say how its not scary.

Here's an example of TNC's tactics from Green-Watch.org:
Transfers its properties to other conservation groups, both public and private, and to government agencies, earning a reprimand from the General Accounting Office for re-selling land to the federal government at a profit. Received $90.7 million from the sale of land to state and federal governments and other conservation agencies in 1992, including $18 million from the Fish and Wildlife Service for land tracts appraised at $17 million.

Tas - You can't store trees, they live and they die. Trees are to be USED. Millions of acres of trees were burned due to the lousy forest practices of the greens and the Feds, and then the greens went to court to block the harvest of the burned dead trees. Now the trees rot on the stump and the scorched barren land is running into the rivers polluting them, too. Hug a green if you like, but I'll call it a waste and theft of MY natural resources.

Pat - The whole rainforest issue has been debunked by everyone who's studied it. If the rainforest was being cut at the rate you've been told there would be NO rainforest. Do your own research!

I guess socialist brainwashing is alive and well.

Re: Is GM Just as Green as Ford

Man, that SUCKS I hate Dodge. But I would guess that if you dug in the right place, you would find Dodge also giving large amounts of money to the greens.
I emailed Ford about their donations, and all I got was double-talk. Here is their response:

<font color=green>"Thank you for your comments about Ford Motor Company Fund's grant to the National Audubon Society. We appreciate you taking the time to bring your concerns to our attention, and helping raise our awareness of different points of view.

First, I want to clarify that our grants in the environmental area concentrate on educational initiatives. Our intent with the National Audubon Society grant was meant in this spirit, and it was limited to environmental education and bird monitoring programs, however, we understand your concerns.

It also is important to clarify that the other grants discussed in the Paragon Foundation piece were given by the Ford Foundation in New York. The Ford Foundation is a separate entity from Ford Motor Company. No member of the Ford family or Ford Motor Company management is on Ford Foundation's Board of Directors. To have your questions or comments about the Ford Foundation's grants addressed, please contact them directly.

In Paragon's article, the author also references the October 2000 speech by our chairman and CEO, Bill Ford, at the annual Greenpeace Business Conference in London. Although the company has not contributed financially to this organization, nor addressed its membership before, we believe this provided a unique opportunity to discuss some of the initiatives taken by Ford Motor Company to voluntarily reduce plant and vehicle effects on the environment.

Ford Fund is the philanthropic arm of Ford Motor Company. Education is Ford Fund's top priority, and our environmental grants are only a small part of our overall giving. The Fund supports non-profit organizations in five priority areas - education; environment; public policy, health and welfare; civic affairs and community development, and arts and humanities.

Ford Motor Company values its customers, and we appreciate your loyalty. Your comments have raised our awareness, and are helpful as we evaluate future contributions.

Thank you for contacting us."</font color=green>

They are talking out of both sides of their mouth. It is a real quandry. I don't know where to draw the line, but I am getting involved. It is one thing to complain and do something about it, but just complaining for the sake of complaining only helps the other side get what they want.

Re: Is GM Just as Green as Ford

The other side of this coin, the one that galls me the most actually, is that while they continue to give money to those who work to eliminate us, those who were so voacal and self righteous in their condemnation of the Excursion (and who are now strangely silent on the subject, suppose $5M affected that?) they (ford and gm) steadfastly refuse to even consider chump change grants to United or other pro motorized groups. GM has NEVER participated or helped United financially, ford made a promise for $5k after months of begging and work, then they not only never fund the grant they spontaneously give $5M to Audobon. Neither brand will drip in my driveway again. Diamler Chrysler granted United $15-20k through Jeep and another 5-8 through Dodge, Rover and Hummer both granted a few k. To my knowledge, the Japanese have not come through with cash though Toyota does advertise heavily in the Voice and may sit on the MFG council. I can dog up more specifics if anyone cares.
