Those who have never seen short shaft D300.

Here are the 2 of them, side by side. They look identical other than the output cone and shaft. The regular D300 is 6.5" from case to center of U-joint cap and the short one is 5.5". The short shaft D300 is also a little stronger because of the way the speedo gear is designed, the shaft isn't prone to shearing like the '81-'86 D300. The short shaft D300 was only made in 1980. While it may not seem like a lot, on a CJ-5, every inch in crucial.

Re: Those who have never seen short shaft D300.

I have a few short d-300's here... seems like i'd let them go pretty reasonable...
that extra inch was nice behind my automatic too.. it also helps the d-shaft angles

Re: Those who have never seen short shaft D300.

If anyone wants to part with a few short outputs (housing, shaft, ect, complete) I'm ready to buy. I need spares that can be swapped in quickly.
Let me know and we'll talk.

I use a 4 to 1 kit in mine, same kit for all jeep 300s.

Re: Those who have never seen short shaft D300.

I just gotta ask, what type of an adapter is bolted to the input side of the short shaft Dana 300 in the picture? Kinda looks like a Dana 18/20 adapter.

I think we determined it's a T-176 adapter.

It does look like a D20/18 adapter, but the hole measurements are wrong.
