J-20 T-98 in a CJ?

I recently aquired a 69 J-20 with what I assume is a T-98 4 speed. Its behind a 232 6. Has anyone bolted one of these up to a CJ? From what I've read this box is similar to a T-18, and while not quite as durable it does have an even lower granny gear. Any info, experience or opinions welcome.

Re: J-20 T-98 in a CJ?

I'm currently in the midst of rebuilding a T98 from a '68 J10 to put into my '76 CJ5. It is very similar to a T18 and from all measurements appears as though it will install in a similar manner (identical bolt pattern, dimensions, etc). Items to note are the input shaft length; many J-truck T98/T18's had much longer input shafts than CJ models, and the long shaft would need to be cut and resplined. Also note condition of the interior parts... while gasket and seal sets are easier to find (pretty much part-for-part from a T18A kit), replacement hard parts like gears and such aren't.
