Air Filter for MC2100/2150

Well, after reading the artical about K+N filters not filtering, and with the knowledge that probably 1/3 of us run MC 2100/2150's on our 258/304/360's,with the enemic little filter housing and 12"x3" paper filter or somthing like that, does anyone know of a larger 14"x4" housing/filter that will fit the MC 2100/2150 intake?mabe a 302/351w ford?
I realize the stock housing would diliver adequit CFM's for the little 1.08 MC 2100 on a 258.

Re: Air Filter for MC2100/2150

Biggest problem on the 258 is the lack of clearance between the master cylinder when you have power brakes. I got my 2150 off my old F250 that had an oil bath air cleaner. Anybody know how well they work flitering wise? Have the same oil bath system on my OLD John Deere which was made to work in the dirt. Did they use that because it was effective, or just because that's all they knew back then in 1950? The F250 air cleaner would fit the 2150, as that's what it came off of, except for the master cylinder interference. Maybe I could get by without brakes....

The motorcraft carb I had on my 360 had a 5-1/4" filter base just like the four barrel carbs. You should be able to get any filter housing for a four barrel and put it on. If clearance is a problem with the six, edelbrock makes a filter housing with an offset opening.

Re: Air Filter for MC2100/2150

I heard the old oil bath filters only work at a certain velocity of intake air. They sling the particles out of the air and into the oil as it takes a sharp turn. If your motor is idling, there is insufficient velocity, and it will not work effectively.

I wish someone make a decent 90 degree adapter for the 4 barrel carb air cleaner tops to go to a snorkel or K & N. K&N has one, but it's not for motors over 200 cid and it's fairly expensive cast aluminum. I ended up making my own out of fibreglass mat and resin.

Re: Air Filter for MC2100/2150

find an air cleaner that has an offset base for a SBC V-8 with HEI dist. the HEI is so big that the aircleaner has to be shifted forward for it to work. go to www.summitracing and do a search for this part # SUM-239432. matt
