What type of manifold upgrade for 258/1bbl

One question for the performance gurus out there. I have a 1 bbl carter and I think I want to upgrade, The thing runs fine I just feel like blowing some money! NOT! anyway I have seen some of the locals running around with holleys on a Clifford but the talk on the board is more in favor of the MC2100. What type of manifold do I need with the 2100 or will mine work?

BTW feel free to enlighten me on exhaust manifolds while youre at it

thanks

Re: What type of manifold upgrade for 258/1bbl

my '76 cj-7 has a 258 in it. it originally had the 1bbl manifold and carb like yours. i got a pair of intake and exhaust manifolds from an '86 258.. i got them from some guy on ebay that was dismanting his engine.

with a stock jeep 258 2bbl intake, you will be able to bolt on a carter BBD or an older 2bbl rochester. you will also get the opportunity to route your coolant through the manifold, and the '83+ years come with electric heaters in the manifold. i'm not sure if you will be able to bolt on a newer 2bbl intake while keeping your stock exhaust, someone else will have to answer that.

If you want to put a Motorcraft 2100/2150 or standard 2bbl Holley on a stock Jeep 2bbl intake, then you will need adapter TRD-2086 from Summit Racing for $12.75, or you can make your own if you've got the tools.

Offenhouser makes a 4bbl aluminum intake which you can find in Summit, quadratrac, etc. and bolt a 390cfm Holley on it.

i'm pulling my 258 apart, it's got a '84(?) head. i will not need the intake/exhaust, if you want. reasonable.

when in doubt.........
empty the magazine.
