O/T nissan altima problem

I washed my moms car earlier and washed the engine pretty well.I was told to always leave it running when washing it.
When I started driving it it sputtered and barely moved.
You can push the accelerator all the way down and it takes a good few seconds to react. The car also vibrates now. It's really wierd as the car is usually pretty fast.It also seems(sounds) as if the engine is revving up sometimes but its not getting any more power to the wheels.
It has fuel injection and and inline four with spark plugs which are buried deep and sealed off.I don't think it could have gotten into the intake as it's sealed off from the air cleaner on and the air cleaner is dry.
It drove it for about 20 minutes and it hasn't stopped.
Any ideas?

Re: O/T nissan altima problem

Check the vacuum lines and electrical connections on the fuel injection unit's controls. I've disconnected some of my various lines and wires washing my motor and had some of the same conditions you do. Doubt you've done any serious harm to the motor.
Hope this helps

Re: O/T nissan altima problem

I had a similiar problem with my BMW. I had a bad series of connection at the plugs where fluid got in. With the electronic ignition, it went nuts.

Check and clean all electrical joints. Also, don't rely on those plug seals, they can give way too.

Re: O/T nissan altima problem

that's why it's "off topic" tinycj7

ya the same thing happed with my mothers altima, except the engine and transmission modules both fried! but of course the water got in the car and that's where the modules are, I'm pretty sure, the tranny one was and I'm almost positive the enige one is too. My mothers sunk in a puddle...a big puddle.

Re: O/T nissan altima problem

sorry been gone for a week
thats what it was extinct.A few of the plugs went back..and I believe it got water in the distributor.
Find me a nissan messageboard that is the same quality as this tiny.
It really doesn't matter as the same thing can/does happen with jeeps.
Would you have been happy if I lied and said it was on a new tj?

lol husky, how did you get your moms altima in such a big puddle

Re: O/T nissan altima problem

you just don't want to know! I was heading down to a beach to watch a couple friends drive the dunes at night ( around here it's the only place to play in the sand legally)
anyway there's a couple ways to get to the beach the road kind of branches off into 3 different ways, I went the middle way, made it to the beach but in the road I took there is a puddle that has a sand bottom and when the tides out you can get across, but by the time we were done watching and everyone's taking off it was coming on high tide and I didn't think much of it, I was talking to my friend when I hit the puddle. by the time I realized it, I was already into it most of the way, so I tried to COME ON, DON'T STOP NOW!! it through the rest of the way, it didn't work and I got stuck less than I foot from the other side!
I had to run to the nearest house which wasn't so near and call one of my buddies. By the time they got there the water had already done it's damage. I hard part was telling my mother. oh ya and get this, that night was the night before Mother's Day so I had to tell mom her car was [email protected]&*! on Mother's Day. Ah ya HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!! oh ya and your car mumble mumble mumble............
she actually took the news quite well I was surprized!

P.S> it's not funny to laugh at other people's expense, well not all the time I find it funny now, but then I was ****ting my hole off
