The 42\" BFGs are on the tow rig -- pics

Got the new tires and wheels yesterday. They are going to do exactly what I wanted lower my rpm at freeway speed and make 4th gear a useable gear on the highway. I'm not real sure what I think of the look yet. I like it, I'm just not sure how much I like it. They are awfully tall (42") to be so skinny (11").

Here's a link to some pics.

Re: The 42\" BFGs are on the tow rig -- pics

Is it working now?

Oh, and they are 11R22.5 BFG DR444 load range G (14 ply) tires on custom made 22.5x8.25 wheels. There was a post going the other day where we ended up talking about "American" tires. These BFG's (BFG owned by French company Michelin) say "Made In Poland" right on the side of them.

Looks sweet. I sure would like to find a good M715. All the ones I locate are just a litle to far for me to look at. Let us know how it is on the road.

Tall describes them well. They look good on your truck. I hope they work well for you.
Is that a custom cab top? I don't believe I've seen that style before.

Yep, I throw an Alaskan camper in the back and tow the CJ on a flatbed trailer behind it. The top came with it when I bought it. I imagine it is something the forest service did. I doubt it is army issue. I did throw the sliding rear window in it. It was tough to find something that would fit right. Ended up using one for a 56 Ford.

Personally I prefer driving it without the top, but even in So Cal it's a little too cold to run topless right now.

Here's another on 42's. They weighed it before loading it on the flatbed trailer, and without any camping gear in it (it was in the support vehicle, the S-10 Blazer), it weighed in at 7,400 lbs. He registers this as greater than 10,000 lbs GVW so he's not subject to Maine's lift laws. He welded the front D60 (and has had pieces of weld blow through the front cover, still holds fine), and says he "...can hear the Swampers wearing on the road". These are pictures of EMWF I (Eastern Maine Wheel Fest) back in July.

Re: The 42\" BFGs are on the tow rig -- pics

His is definitly cooler than mine. I really wanted 42-44" swampers, but this is my daily driver/tow rig. With the kind of mileage I put on it I'd be going through at least 2 sets of swampers a year. Besides, I bet mine tows better than his does.
