Good axle swap candidates?

I've got a line on a couple of axles that I'm interested in using for a buildup project based on CJ components. The axles are from a 78 dodge. A rear D-60 and front D-44. I know diddly about dodge parts so hence the questions. What side does center drop the front axle? Are there any other issues I should be concerned about in the front as far as the axles, hubs, etc? Anything in particular in the rear? They've got the gears I want and the price is right. $250.00 for the pair.

Re: Good axle swap candidates?

The front diff is on the passenger side. The spring mounts are on top of the axle but it only uses three u-bolt on the front axle. The inside of the diff mount has two studs to hole the spring plate on. It might also be a front axle from a full-time dodge. If so, it will have a semi-floating front axle with no way to add hubs. If you want to add hubs, you'll either have to swap knuckle out with a full floating dodge or chevy dana 44. The front bearing design is also a little on the weak side and needs a wheel with a lot of backspacing. Used in a jeep, it will probably hold up for a long time though, just make sure the center of the tire is in the center of the bearings.
