I need info on 75 scout II

What drive train would be found in a 75 scout 2 with an auto trany. Looks like a Dana 44 up front. Thanks

97 TJ 31's and mostly stock but seeing what I can do about that..

Re: I need info on 75 scout II

I believe 1975 to 1980 had the 1 piece Dana 44s. Older Scouts have the 2 piece axles. Look close, not all Scouts came with 44s. I think some had the model 20 rear.

Yep, D44's F/R, TF727 tranny, and D20 T-case. Good setup, it probably has 3.54 gears with the auto.

Re: I need info on 75 scout II

It most likely has a dana 44 and it may not have 3.54 gears. I just sold my scout and it had 3.05 gears in the axles and it was an auto tranny '76.

Re: I need info on 75 scout II

The only Scout with a Dana 300 was the 1980 model. Prior to that they were Dana 20's and even earlier had Dana 18's.

Re: I need info on 75 scout II

My '76 with auto has the 3.54's, and it seems to be the most common ratio I have seen for Scouts. Yes, it has the D20, and definitely a D44 front, from '75 to '80 that's all that was offered. Even the '74 model had mostly d44's, the D30 front was rare in '74, especially with the disc brakes. The D20 is a good case, and the Scout one is very easy to twin stick, better than the Jeep D20.

Re: I need info on 75 scout II

Cool,
I was hoping that it would have the Dana 300, but you can't win them all.
Is that auto trany any good??
also do they come with saginaw steering boxes and can the break master Cyl be converted for the Jeep??

I would go out and crawl under this thing, but with my screwed up knee I might be there for a while... On my back that is..

Re: I need info on 75 scout II

Yes to the Saginaw boxes, but they are mounted differently from the jeeps. The PB setup is also kinda large, not sure if it would work in a jeep, but with torches and a welder, anything is possible.

Yes, the TF 727 is a good tranny, very stout. Unfortunately not so good in a jeep because the only thing it bolts to is the IH motors (unless you're lucky enough to find a Scout with the Jeep 258 and auto in it, but I've never seen one). On top of that, they are large, so you have to run a 2 piece front driveshaft or lift it enough so the driveshaft will clear. The framerails on the jeep are a lot narrower than the Scout, so it creates the clearance issues.

I have a whole Scout, with the 304 and auto (with 3.54 gears), I've been trying to sell for $300, but no takers. Looks like I may part out the body (not in too bad shape, panels are good) and use the drivetrain under a different body, like a Jeep Pickup or Wagon.
