Detroit busted After 200 miles

So, I took off my diff cover and realized the detroit locker off my Super D35 kit was busted. I guess that explains why it only engaged on one side. It's funny, I haven't taken it 4-wheeling yet. I didn't drive it like a maniac(high RPM's). THe guys at drivetrain direct are sending me another one. They're sending the busted unit to Tractech for failure analysis and they'll determine if I gotta pay for the new one or not. So how do they come to the conclusion if it was me or a defective unit? any ideas?

Thanks
Paulee

Re: Detroit busted After 200 miles

Lets put it this way, unless there was an error in the installation there is no way it was your fault. Sounds like a mfr. defect from the start to me.

Re: Detroit busted After 200 miles

There used to be a problem with ARB lockers blowing up in D35's. I think that ARB determined that it was cause by bent axle housings. Might want to look into that.

Re: Detroit busted After 200 miles

I couldn't see an error in installation. I mean, I'm not mr. perfect in any way, but it was pretty straight forward. I hope I don't have to pay another $400.
And how do I figure out the bent axle-housing thing? Would the locker rub anywhere?

Did you setup the axle? Had you done it before?

If you mean the gears, yeah, I did it with a buddy. Those were set up right. When I opened her up it still looked like new. I will paint it and check for patterns when I get the new locker. If you didn't mean gears, then what do you mean?

Re: Detroit busted After 200 miles

I sure as hell woundnt install another until I knew I didnt have to pay for the damn thing twice!

I mean, you might be out the install equip and effort X 2 , for ONE good locker and 2 times the price?

I dont think so, Id demand the $400 and then buy another if you wish, or get something else.

Re: Detroit busted After 200 miles

shouldn't have wasted the money on the D35 in the first place. There is a guy in town drop the warn full float kit, a detroit and 4.56 into his D35, total was over $2000. He has had to replace all of these components twice! the hubs blow out for no reason at all and you cann't move with the Detroit in their cause it well get screwed up. D35 = POS! If you guys need to hear any more just ask, this guy could have bought a custom Dana 44 with the detroit and gears for less, now he has fixed the rearend again and is just going to sell the TJ so he can try to break even on how much he spend on it.

waiting on the 1-tons!
