I am not too sure about a few signs (might be bad) that my Jeep is giving me. Every time i shift from 2nd to 3rd to 4th, i have to jam the lever hard. The clutch is pushed to the floor. What could the problem be? Also how much do you wear the clutch down when down shifting?
well it's either the tranny or the clutch. better it's the clutch- cheaper. check the clutch master cyl for fluid level. do you leak clutch fluid? did you try bleeding the clutch? it's easy and could fix if air in line. you may need to do a clutch job.
I sounds like the slave to the throw-out bearing on the clutch may need to be bled or replaced. You can tell when the throw-out bearing is touching the clutch by pushing slowly on the clutch peddle and listening for when you hear the bearing make contact and spin. If this is not near the top couple of inches of the peddle (but is at the bottom as you push in), that may be your problem. (I think that you will have to pull the tranny if the slave needs to be replaced on your year.)
If that is not it, check the fluid level in the tranny as it may be low, causing the tranny to begin to freeze up. The other problem may be that the pilot bushing is dry (out of lube) and is grabbing the shaft of the tranny, keeping the gears turning even though the clutch is pushed in.
I have had all of these happen to me.
Good Luck!
Kriss
