so i am getting my newly rebuilt engine back on friday (hopefully). everything is put together so all i need to do is install the distributor. this is my first time at this, so correct me if i am way off. don't i just drop the distributor in and kinda guess at the original setup, then check the timing, and depending on if i have enough adjustment, maybe i'll have to lift out the dist again and move it a tooth or two. is that close?

thanks all
shawn

The cup isn't half full or half empty, it's just twice the size it needs to be!!!

1. Set the engine to TDC of the compression stroke.
a. Stick your finger in the Plug Hole # 1 and feel for compression.
b. Confirm by looking in the oil (258ci) fill hole to see both valves are closed.
2. Find the #1 spark plug tower on the distributor.
3. Mark it on the base of the distributor.
4. Remove the distributor cap.
5. Drop the distributor in so that the rotor is pointing to the mark on the base of the distributor.
6. Lock down the distributor.
7. Go to my web page (click on the signature below) and go to the section on timing an engine.
8. Follow the instructions.

The engine's timed.
