I see that many of you have put the webber 38 carb on you jeeps and others have put the 32/36 on. I have a stock motor now so I am thinking of the smaller carb, but will it be big enough when I eventually put in a new cam and a 4.0 head? Or should I get the 38 and put up with the poor milage, or can I tune it down a little bit to make it run good for the time being?
My girlfriend said if I spent one more dime on my Jeep she would leave. Man I'm going to miss her!
The 38 will work fine on an unmodified engine. You will just get bad mileage and not be able to take advantage of the 38's full potential. If you do an HEI or TFI ignition upgrade in addition to adding the Weber 38 you will be in good shape.
I got a 38 about 8 years ago with the same intentions as you. It was fine on my stock engine, and even better when I did put on a Borla Cat-back exhaust and a HEI distriutor. I still haven't done any internal mods yet, however I have a rebuild 4.0 head that will go on as soon as I rebuild a short block.
