I'm literally right in the middle of a 4.0 swap into my 90 YJ (the new engine is hanging by the cherry picker as I type). The new engine came from a 2000 Grand Cherokee. Unfortunately, when I lowered the new motor into the engine compartment, I discovered that the old 4.2 mounts were not lining up on the new engine. I should have checked it before I tried to put it in, but I researched the swap pretty carefully before I got into it and never read about a problem using the old mounts.
I'm assuming that there must have been a change in the block design in the later model 4.0s. I've got a Jeep boneyard nearby that I can hit tommorow. My question is, what mount should I try and pickup - a TJ or ZJ? Does anybody know what year the change took place? Can I get this thing in without welding new mounting blocks?
I know there haven't been a whole lot of later model 4.0 swaps done on the board, but I appreciate any info you guys may have. This is what I get for trying to blaze a new trail!
