YJ Alternator on CJ?

Will an alternator off an 87-90 YJ 4.2l fit an 85 CJ 4.2l?

Re: YJ Alternator on CJ?

That first post wasn't clear enough. Will the plugs, pulleys, bolt holes, etc. match up? I can get a YJ alt from a friend for a lot less than what the parts store wants for one for my CJ.

Re: YJ Alternator on CJ?

I remember hearing that a alt off a 4.0 I6 with the highout put electrical option will bolt on a YJ with the 4.2. For a good upgrade in output. I believe about 120 amps, if I'm not mistaken. This is a good upgrade if you can find a YJ or XJ in a junk yard. I have even heard of people buying the junk one, and taking it into the local 'zone to exchange for the core and get one with a lifetime warrenty to bolt on.

As for your original question, I am not sure.
