Dana 18 to T-18 Questions

I just picked up a 79 CJ with a T-18 and Dana 20.I'm putting this into a 77 CJ with a Quadratrac so I have an offset rear axle.It has the one piece axles so I would like to keep it.I want to go twin stick and with lower T-Case gears. What parts do I need to bolt a Dana 18 on the back of the T-18.The parts I do have are,the Dana 20,Dana 20 from a Commando with a turbo 400,Dana 18 with a brake drum on the output dont know what year,Dana 18 with no brake drum dont know what year,Dana 18 from behind a Buick V6 with a T-14 and single shifter dont know what year and a Dana 20 from a 72 Bronco.Which parts do I use or need to get to do this?I did a search but I couldn't come up with any thing conclusive. Thanks for any input

Re: Dana 18 to T-18 Questions

Well, the Dana 18 will bolt up to the T-18 but you are going to need a Dana 18 bull gear (the one on the tranny output shaft) The Dana 20 gear has a different pitch and won't work with the 18. As to which dana 18 you should use, there are different sizes of shafts in some years of the 18s. I'm not really up on the 18s and can't give you specifics, but some are stronger than others. Hopefully an 18 guru can help you out more. I'll look around to see what info I can find. As far as I know all 18s have the same ratio (2.62:1 or thereabout)

Re: Dana 18 to T-18 Questions

The 18's I have are all inch and a quarter shaft. But I think they are all the small opening except maybe the one behind the T-14.I was hoping I could bolt the 18 parts into the 20 case. The 18 is 2.46 gears.

Re: Dana 18 to T-18 Questions

Yes you should be able to use the 1 1/4 inch D18 parts in a D20 case without any modes.
