Wouldnt let me buy a gun \'cause of my home town!!!

I was at a shooting store the other day, and i was about to buy an other rifle that i had been eye-balling for a while..... but they told me it was "store policy" not to sell that (and a few other models) to persons residing in my city (aurora, IL).

can they do that????????????????

Yes they can,,, Any merchant for any reason on any item can refuse to sell their wares to anyone. Can't make a lot of money that way but they have the right to refuse service to whomever they choose. I hold an FFL and I have the right to refuse to sell to anyone that I deam may be a risk by looks or actions or just general purposes. This is not to say you are either of those. I would suggest that you get the model number of that gun and try another gunshop. No I do not do out of state sales. Sorry

It could be that there is a law or police request or community request for that matter, for him not to sell military style or assult style rifles to that community. Who knowes??????

Yes they can They can also prohibit you from buying a handgun if you live in Morton Grove, Evanston or Chicago and probably a few others. That's because they are not legal to own in those towns. Sux don't it? I'm still trying to figure out how to transport a handgun through (via the Kennady) Chicago legaly. What store were you at?

Re: Wouldnt let me buy a gun \'cause of my home town!!!

Federal Firearm Owner's Protection Act of 1986.

It allows the transportation of firearms, disassembled, across all state and local boundaries regardless of existing laws. It was created specifically so you could transport a firearm from location A to location B anywhere in the US without doing it illegally. People were getting stopped and arrested in MA when they'd pass through the state to get to Maine and NH for hunting season.

If you do a search on the WWW you'll find it.

That's cool, I did my project on it in college, back in 1988.
